XXVI. YorkNew City

I realised how much I had grown in the last months. I desperately missed my normal writer lifestyle, even if some people deemed it crazy. Yet nothing could be done, we remained in that forest for a considerable amount of time, for most of which I trained with Feitan, Machi, Franklin and even Nobunaga. I was so used to fighting Feitan that I had to force myself to stop the bad habits I had created and analyse the style differences. What was better and worse in each. It was a good experience, not everyone fights the same. I had to pay much more attention since I wasn't used to them.

Then we continued our walking, I asked Feitan where to, surprisingly he didn't answer. When I implied that I knew we were going to Yorknew City he didn't correct me, so I assumed I was right.

Sometime later, Nobunaga had a slip of his tongue and confirmed all my suspicions. Feitan cursed as I walked around him.

"HA! I knew it! Why didn't you tell me Feeeeeeeeeeeei?" I yelled, full of mischief, only to be hit with a leg out of nowhere and, thank hot chocolate, I managed to dodge the umbrella or else I'd have no left eye by now.

What a dangerous man. Somehow thinking of danger reminded me of Illumi, he'd never come back, right? So why was I still training? Did I want to go out and find him only to show him how much stronger I'd gotten? That I'd never be bossed around anymore?

That'd be very dumb and dangerous. A chill went up my spine, I looked around to distract myself, the more we walked the more the landscape changed. We had passed by cities, forests, mountains, lands filled with ice and now the air was getting drier, so I guessed somewhere along the way we'd cross a desert.

"So... can you guys tell me what you are going to steal in Yorknew city?" My curiosity knew no limits and it was a good thing, it meant the silence could be broken at any time. They took their time to answer, probably because they didn't know themselves. They ended up leaving their guesses, "Books, Danchou likes those".

I stopped, angry at them. How could someone steal books? Rude, rude people.

"He doesn't steal books... at least not mine..." I tried to make it right but, to be honest, why was I defending Chrollo, he was a part of this group. Worse, he was the leader, he must be as strong or stronger than Illumi. I cannot trust these people too much, letting my guard down would be too foolish.

There were few people to trust in this world. As much as I could trust my life to them at the moment, everything could change when we got to Yorknew and my training finished. What was I going to do after all this? I wondered, lost in thought I didn't realize that Machi and Nobunaga were staring at me, eyes filled with surprise, but I did notice when Nobunaga exclaimed, "You know Danchou?"

In pure disbelief, I looked at them and Feitan was rolling on the floor laughing, holding his belly.

"Why I train idiot? Danchou order." I rolled my eyes, how could he be so harsh and detached? What made him this way? If Feitan was my character, what messed up thing would I make him go through so that he was left like this? Some really horrible things... I imagined.

"He's kind of my friend." Answering him, made Machi's mouth hang open and Nobunaga lose his words when 'friend' left my lips. Lord chocolate, these were the weirdest people. Knowing that no matter what I said, they'd be shocked, I just shrugged and led my E/C eyes into the distance.

Feitan was trying to catch his breath, whispering foreign curses, "Haaa. Too funny." I saw buildings cutting the clean line of the horizon, a city slowly appearing.

That was it. That was the end of my training. When was Feitan going to tell me that it was time for me to leave his sight and never come back?

Chrollo was in YorkNew City, right? I could just go and visit him, thank him for this sadistic teacher and the lesson on the perseverance of the human body. I thought about my future as I followed silently behind Feitan, Machi, Franklin and Nobunaga through the busy streets of the city. Salesmen were in every corner, I could only guess that these four spiders were going to steal something very valuable.

Could I watch? These people were such unique characters, I felt the need to observe and find out their motives and backstories. But this wasn't a book and I certainly wasn't the main character, so I shrugged and hummed a cute song.

We ended up in a dark place, far from the centre and obviously abandoned. Typical spiders. How could they be so extra? Was it one of the requirements to enter the troupe?
Unable to keep it to myself, I smiled a little and Feitan called me gross, his disappointed stare falling on me.

Some people were inside, their power oozing out, making my body shift to defence mode. I took a deep breath, my eyes followed Feitan and the rest as they greeted the others casually. I had five seconds to realise that I didn't belong there and three for a creepy clown guy to come up to me.

His hair was fuchsia, filled with hairspray I assumed, as it was defying gravity, his face literally white with two symbols drawn on each cheek skilfully. He was wearing a white outfit with another 2 card deck symbols on the top. Was that a crop top? Damn... To match his randomly clownish attire, he wore purple bracelets and some yellow heels, not very high but definitely heels.

"My My... What do we have here? A little lost lamb?~☆"

His voice was undoubtedly provocative, my spine shivered as he patted my shoulder harshly.
