Sitting here in front of my parents was literally the most awkward thing ever. I didn't leave the hotel until eight in the morning. By the time I walked through the door my parents were already situated in the living room.
They haven't said a word since I sat down—so I decided to break the silence
"Glad you've arrived safely," I said nervously which prompted more silence and awkward stares.
"That's all you have to say?" my mother asked.
Before I could open up my mouth and respond my father spoke first
"How has life been in New York been?" He asked condescendingly. I could already sense shade coming through "You're hanging around with a white football player, you're fighting, you've been to jail, may I go on?"
"This is what you meant by wanting freedom?" My mother added in
"Opp" Celine added in causing me to glare at her
"Life is about making mistakes and learning from them to grow as a person. So what I've made a few" I countered back
"I say you made one too many. Starting with dating that football player who I heard does cocaine. Nice crowd you got yourself hanging around with" my father added
"He does not do cocaine, Dad. Someone drugged him" I defended
"Nadia living here has made you take a thousand steps backward in the wrong direction" my father gritted out "and I bet Celine has helped influenced you to do so"
"Aye, keep me out of this, Nadia is a grown woman," Celine said in her defense "I do not influence her!"
"Dad stop tryna play the blame game, the only thing Celine did was ask me to come live with her which I chose to do" I got out in frustration "plus, Celine is the one who helped me get my ESPN job anyway"
"This isn't the place for you! Ever since you got here it's been Nadia's gone wild" Mother added in "what happened to our sweet obedient little girl?"
I really tried not to roll my eyes at that.
"It's my life though! I'm twenty-three and I learned more about life living here then I did living under your roof! I learned things you would never be able to teach me!" I shouted
