And I Wait Some More

It's been a week since we last parted ways,

I'm sure you've been busy, so I counted the days.

It would be so much easier with you right here,

Instead of me writing you could just lend me your ear.

I could focus on you and your beautiful eyes,

I'd apologize, I swear, for your unnecessary cries.

And although I struggle to write while alone,

I'd wish you could trade places with my damn cell phone.

My bed is still stained from our love affair,

And my unkept body could use some aftercare.

I have let myself go without you around,

But at least I'm eating, so I haven't lost a pound.

It's not easy without you, I'm reminded every day,

By strands of your hair in my bed, and memories on replay.

If you can forgive my sins and I forgive yours,

We can stand together and knock down life's doors.

But there's a space between us, we must eliminate,

For us to recover, to marry and procreate.

It feels like you're dead as silence consumes me,

But my heart knows better, fooled it can't be.

So as I lie here seven days later,

I wonder if your heart is now a lover or hater.

And I wouldn't blame you for being torn up inside,

We both weren't ourselves, we were the demons we hide.

At the end of it all we'll both find some words to say,

We'll respond in unison, "If there's a will, there's a way.
