Editing Love

I've been wanting to write this poem for quite a while,

But every time I start the words just don't seem to compile.

Everything was great for us in the beginning,

We were super happy, we couldn't stop grinning.

Whether I found you or you found me,

It all just happened so unexpectedly.

We both jumped in without a second thought,

There was no fear, we knew what we sought.

We talked about Sweden and even baby names,

All while going on dates and playing video games.

But the honeymoon didn't last all that long,

And here I was planning our wedding song.

Your past came back to haunt you in a horrible way,

I needed to understand you, but you just wouldn't say.

You began to grow cold, the girl I loved pulling away,

She seemed to take a step back each and every day.

There were glimmers of hope that pierced through the grey,

Yet it still seemed like the wrong time to my dismay.

I tried to support you and be patient too,

Maybe I just didn't know what the right thing was to do.

We held on for a while but it just didn't last,

Which leaves me to wonder if you still struggle with your past.

I know I walked away and left you at your door,

But I had no choice, I can't feel guilty anymore.

I did my best and that's all that one can ask,

And yet after a month I came to you with a task.

My writing is important and so I need a favour,

I need you to help me edit, so please don't waver.

Life is full of beginnings and also has ends,

Like lovers to strangers, then back to friends.
