❝ You're not the wrong person for the ways you tried to kill your sadness.❞

You were walking along a snowy dirt path when you noticed a cassette on top of the powder. You went over to it and picked it up, turning it over in your hands you read the name Jules on it in almost perfect print. Also on the tape was an open star, that made you smile. You pocketed the recording and headed home.

When you got to your house, you put the cassette down and went up to your attic. Searching through the random mess, you finally found it, your old silver radio and cassette tape converter. You tugged it downstairs, forgetting how heavy it was you slammed it down on your coffee table. An exhausted breath escaped your mouth as you picked up the tape once again. Putting it the converter, you waited until a track of power ballads and gloomy melodies sounded out.

You grabbed your sketchbook and started to draw, your hand moved along the paper with ease. In the back of your mind, you had a landscape planned out; it was from one of your trips. You had most of the outline drawn, but you needed your color pencils. You looked through all of your moving boxes and finally found a box of colors. You colored and blended, making a beautiful sunset above a lake. It looked like something that would belong in a museum, but after looking at it for too long, you got bored and fell asleep.

You heard a shuffling of paper when you woke up; you rubbed your eyes, trying to get rid of the sleepiness. You looked up to see a girl going through your artwork; at first, you were confused, but as you saw the hunting knife, you quickly became scared. "Did you draw these?" The question caught you off guard, but you answered truthfully and said yes. The girl asked where the inspiration came from, you replied by describing a place with a different climate and weather. She nodded and sat the pad down, she grabbed the tape that was already out and put it in her pocket.

"I've always wanted to get away from this snow-filled town... Go somewhere else... Maybe try to be something I'm not... I'm not sure; I need a change of scenery... Are you moving to?" You nodded your head and stood up. Picking up one of your boxes, you went outside and put it in the back of your pickup truck. The girl followed you with two tables in hand; you gave her a confused glance when she sat them down beside yours.

"I wanna join you... I hate it here... I know everything around here like the back of my hand... All there is snow... I want to go to a beach, feel the sand... I want to be on a plane, be in the middle of all those fluffy clouds... Please, I would do anything..." After a minute of thinking you agreed, she did a mini scream and hugged you. She kept saying thank you over and over again, jumping rapidly. You giggled and went to pack more boxes out; the girl helped you as you went. Finally, when you finished, she said she needed to go home to grab her stuff, you acknowledged her with a nod and got into the driver's seat of your truck. You pulled out your sketchbook and started to draw the snowy image in front of you, being sort of sloppy with the outline your result wasn't as good as usual but you didn't care. You knew you had a gift with art, but it was shunned upon in your family, so it didn't impress you much.

You heard a car door open and shut, the girl from before sat in your passenger seat with a plastic bag of all her belongings. She started to sniffle, putting you into a state of alarm. You grabbed her hand, blushing slightly, "What happened, Jules?" She paused for a second asking how you knew her nickname; you said it was written on the cassette tape, and you just assumed. She took off her ceramic mask, looking at it intently before throwing it at what was your house. She grabbed her knife, throwing it into the floorboard of your vehicle. "I'm not Jules anymore... She died when the guy who she thought loved her to hit her and said she could never leave... Call me by my real name, not the one they shortened, Julie..."

You hugged her, playing with her shortened hair and said it was ok. You wiped away her stray tears; she giggled as you did so. "Come on... Let's not worry about what my ex-friends did... Let's go on a road trip!" You shook your head and started the truck up, squeezing her hand a final time before putting both on the wheel. As you drove, you promised yourself to take Julie with you everywhere because the smile she gave you when you got on the highway was everything.
