It was rather strange not having half of the girls in our sleeping quarters that night, I couldn't knock out that night, perhaps it was because of Anastasia constant sobs, or because Nancy and Anna wouldn't shut up, I think it was the fact that soon I would compete against Shya to win over Conrad's heart, something that seemed rather insignificant right about now, since my best friend had disappeared.

"Blair deserves it you know," Nancy spat, appearing on the bed next to mine, Allice had shown up here a while ago, and had not left, I kept stealing glances at her, wondering why she had taken a liking to being with Nancy and Anna and becky.

"I don't care much for your opinion, " I ignored her, continuing to read my book. Allice took the seat next to her on the bed, studying me. Her ice blue eyes stood out with a thin layer of eyeliner, her hair in voluminous curls.

"Well you should, because everyone has been talking about how you are sneaking around with Nathen, ever since he took a liking to Shya, Shya even called you a snake." Allice snickered next to her, however her eyes were dark, as though she was plotting something, I ripped my glance away, my stomach turning into knots.

I had no idea if I could take this much longer. I missed her bright eyes, her quiet gentle nature, I knew it had only been a few days since I had seen her, but now it felt like an eternity. I wished she was here to stand next to me, I needed someone I could lean on, I didn't think I could do it alone.

Curse this stupid government

"Blair's mom was selfish just like you, if I were you I would be ashamed, like friend like friend, I bet she got banned because she was a scum bag just like her family," the fire in me burned over, as I kept out of bed, everything claiming out of control.

I had stood like a perfect girl for the past month, taking everything people threw at me with a smile on my face, but how many bullet holes can somebody handle, before they break.

Strength isn't brought by being the best, it is the ability to withstand turmoil

"Talk about me all you want, but when you talk about my friend, that is where I draw the line," I knew by the evil grins that were plastered on Nancy and Alice's faces, they were lost causes, they didn't care who they Married, as long as they possessed a powerful spot on the woman's Society, all they  wanted was a title.

"Burn to death for all I care," I hissed, slamming the door behind me, we had 45 minutes before curfew, and I needed to clear my head, but I didn't miss the snide remark the girls threw at me before I disappeared.

I didn't care if it was against the law, I was going to see Blair, and I was getting her back if it was the last thing I did, her parents had disobeyed the law, not her but they knew exactly how to get under her family's skin. Blair was all they had, and taking away their  only treasure was speaking to the men on the council, I wondered if Nathan and Conrad would stand by their decision?

Faint light pooled  from the street lamps, casting a dim glow on the cobblestone walk in front of me, fruit stands had closed up for the night, the ones that lined the street on the way to the Council building.

Many of them were worked by the third class, trying to make a bit of extra money, however, a large portion of the money went to the government, to be sure that nobody ever broke out of their ranking.

My eyes darted to a faint sound that arrupted up the street, two boys, maybe nine and ten, dashed past me, nearly knocking me down in the process, they wore tattered clothes, their hair a mess, my mind instantly placed them in third class, most people lowering them to the standard of dogs.

A middle aged man in a suit, an elete hobbled by, a Law enforcement agent racing in front of him. "Get him, get those good for nothing orphans, they have my watch," the Elete man bellowed, looping himself down in a chair. He didn't pay a mind to me as I stood, watching him through the corner of my eye. He leaned back, light reflecting from his wrist, I could barely make out the lining of a gold watch that sat untouched on his arm.

How dare he?

My eyes then trailed after the boys, they hadn't gone far, their beaten and tattered state holding them back, the law worker had captured them with the help of another man, both boys were hunched over, their clothes drowning them. I forced myself to watch as the boys were thrust against the wall, both of them tumbling to the ground in their weak state, the younger boy had almost gotten away, however he turned around, and remained with the older one, as the officer ripped a silver watch from the young boys hands, he lay there, his eyes falling painfully shut, his hands clenching as the last man finished one final blow to his already swollen head, they lay there, nobody to ever know there names, two boys who had just existed to die without anybody really caring.
Once the men had gone, I stood, pacing toward the boys who lay barely breathing on the chilled uneven ground.

"So you are a saint now," I wheeled my head around, a figure appearing behind me. Since when did Mason, Conrad's best friend spy on me?his blonde hair was rather messy, his eyes alight.

"What are you, spying on me?" I shot at him, dropping a pile of coins next to the boys before brushing past him. He had another plan in mind, his fingers forming around my elbow.

"Conrad wondered where you were when you were not in your room, I wasn't supposed to tell you, but Nathen was missing, we thought, well that you two," I jerked my arm away, I didn't think Conrad would be watching me all night.

"I would never cheat on him, I barely know Nathen," I bit out, my hands balling into fists unintentionally. Mason didn't move a muscle, eying me expectantly. He brushed a hand through his hair, his eyes roving over to the boys who still lay there, almost peacefully.

"Why did you give those dirt bags money, they are less then third class." I followed his gaze, the money still where it had been before.

"They are people too," I muttered, "It's not against the law to help someone." He nodded, not making an effort to leave.

I could still feel the leather bound book that sat within my dress, I had sown a small pocket inside my underclothes, so disguised the laundry workers would never notice it.

"Conrad really cares about you, you know, he wouldn't kiss you for no reason," Mason turned on his heel about to leave before he turned to face me again, "he expects you at breakfast with us tomorrow."

I nodded, his words sinking in, I was lucky to have Conrad, I should be grateful, another side of me yearned for answers though, answers to questions my mind couldn't form.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
