A New Fate

"Link? Link?" I whispered.

I had been up nearly an hour. I promised that I would wait until he woke but my patience was running dry, no matter how peaceful he looked drooling on his pillow. I tapped my chin, eyeing the slate. With a smile, I brought up the camera. I got as close as I could, snapping a picture.

Thoughtfully, I said, "I wonder if there's a way to record sounds or movement. Hmm . . ."

Moving on I looked at the other runes I had been dying to try. The first one I tried was Magnesis. However, there wasn't much around that was metal. Then on the innkeeper's desk, I spotted a lantern. I lifted it carefully. When I was able to figure out how to pull it towards me, it went flying, breaking against the wall. I quickly stamped out the flames. The innkeeper stirred as did Link, but neither woke up.

I moved on to Stasis. For that, it turned out I was limited to only two things in the room. Link and the innkeeper. Because the innkeeper was snoring so loudly, I decided to test a theory. I paused time for him. His snoring stopped, at least until time resumed for him.

The only other runes were the Remote Bombs, Cryonis, and the Master Cycle Zero. While looking around, I saw that a puddle of water was under Link's bed. The puddle was no doubt from the storm. Though it was a stupid idea, I thought nothing of it, wanting him awake anyway.

I pushed on the screen and watched as Link's bed rose up on the ice block. My hand went to my mouth as I laughed. Then I pushed it in again to break the ice. I watched as the bed fell back to the floor with a bang. My shoulders slumped as Link still lay asleep.

So I went ahead and brought out the Master Cycle Zero. It rumbled loudly as it appeared, scaring me so badly that I quickly summoned it back into the slate. At this rate, I was going to wake up the whole village before I woke Link. I guessed that having been stuck in the castle for a hundred years was making me restless.

I sighed, laying back down in the bed and closing my eyes for a brief moment. The next thing I knew, I felt Link's presence standing over me.

"Open your eyes. Wake up, Zelda."

I peeked at him, his words reminding me of when he was in the Shrine of Resurrection. To my disbelief, the innkeeper was also wide awake. Guess I missed the set time everyone planned to wake up.

Springing out of the bed, I grabbed his hand and raced out of the inn and to our horses. "Let's go! Hateno isn't far from here. Plus it has a lot to do with your past as a child!"

He pulled on my hand, almost making me stumble into him, "Actually, there's a faster way to get there."

"If you're talking about the Travel Gates, I know that. However, the problem of only one traveling still remains."

He shook his head, "No, not that."

Grudgingly I handed over the slate. Seconds later the cycle was rumbling in front of us. He got on it and then gestured for me to do the same. Carefully I got on.

"How fast does this go?" I asked curiously.

"Too fast, hold on."

Hesitantly I put my arms around him, though I was glad to know that I wasn't imagining him. He was right when he said it went too fast. I nearly fell off at the start by the G-force. My hair blew wildly as we rode out of the village. I was shocked to see the swamp already passing by before I knew it.

On our way down the road, we scared a merchant. I tried giving him our apology, but he probably heard none of it. Before long we were traveling through Fort Hateno. Though it passed by in a blur, I still felt the ping of sorrow as I looked back at the swamp where Link had almost made his last stand. Taking a breath I faced forward again, leaning my head against Link's back. The past couldn't be changed, there was only what I had now. And now was a blessing to have.
