is anyone out there?

i scream into the forest, the sea of trees and moss and stone, but nothing comes back.

the trees mock me, telling me i should have just conformed, that i shouldn't have dared to step out.

the moss pulls me softly to the ground. you can stay here, they whisper. you can stay and you'll never have to try too hard again.

i am one with the stone, planted firmly on the ground, i could stay forever.

i am alone. drifting further and further from my home, from the comfort of stability and knowing where i belong.

and yet, it's so comfortable here. the moss forms a nice bed and i can sleep. sleep forever and never return the the home where i belong.

the birds sing sweet songs
the bugs are my friends.
i never have to leave this place
i'll never have to pretend.
