1.8 Jose Vargas

At the firehouse in the conference room.

We were all sitting there wanting for the chief who's gonna tell us the news about Vargas.

The Chief walked inside "morning"

We all nodded "morning"

Chief "I know you're all concerned about what happened to Vargas on the last shift. Hospital has treated him and released him. He's resting up. But he is not out of the woods. Hazmat has confirmed magnesium shavings were in a bin at the machine shop, which you all know is reactive with water. "

Hermann "Magnesium inhalation. "

The Chief nodded "He's got burns in his lungs and an upper respiratory tract infection."

Hermann " So when are we gonna see him again?"

The Chief shook his head " We won't know until we get the test results. But look, he's gonna be fine no matter what happens. Okay?"

Then he walked over o the door where Kelly, Shay and i were sitting.

Chief to Kelly " Uh, my office. Now."

Kelly stood up and followed the chief out.

I was sitting at the Squad 3 table. Truck 81 and the ambo had been called to a case.

Suddenly i saw Severide walking to me and sitting down on his chair.

I looked at him.

Kelly asked confused "What?"

I shrugged "what did the Chief want?"

Kelly "He wanted me to back off of the boy"

Me"you think it was him?"

Kelly nodded "and you"

I nodded "yeah "

Suddenly the others came back.

Shay sat down next to me.

The PA went on "Live and in person, Jose Vargas!"

Jose showed up. Everyone hugged him.

I stood up and walked to him "good to see you"

He nodded.

Kelly shook his hand and nodded "He's staying. Come on, let's eat"

Everyone cheered.

Suddenly the alarm went off "ambulance 61"

The girls left and we walked into the group room.

We grabbed out plates of food and sat down on the table. Well, i wasn't hungry.

i sat down next to Casey.

Vargas "Doctor's got me huffing on a nebulizar four times a day, plus, this inhaler. Busy day so far"

Kelly "uh, no, no, not too bad"

Suddenly someone walked inside "Casey. Severide. Chief's asking for you. "

The two stood up and left.

I saw Casey and Kelly walking out of Chief's office.

I walked to the boys "what's going on?"

They looked at each other and then at me.

I asked confused "what?"

Casey looked at Kelly "She's gonna find out either way"

Kelly sighed "come with us"
