A few days later. At the hospital.

I was lying on the bed with my shirt off. The doc was doing some examinations.

Kelly was waiting in my room.

Dr.Givens "the surgical wound is healing pretty well"

She looked at the the wound i had under my left breast.

Me "i was hoping to get back on shift today. "

Dr. Givens "we need to keep an eye on your breathing for another week or two."

Me "i can breathe fine.  No pain"

I sat up  and took a deep breath in and out "see?"

She shot me a look.

Me "fine. I'll sit out this shift, but 72 hours from now -"

Dr. Givens "no early fatigue when you exert? no need to catch your breath?"

I shook my head and put my shirt on "none. I swear"

She shot me a look.

Kelly and i walked out of the elevator. He had his arm around my waist and was carrying my bag in his free hand.

Gabby and Brett came across us with the roll bed.

Kelly asked funny "hey, what happened to you?"

Me "you get handy with the guys on the truck again?"

Gabby smiled "this is your fault, all right? Mills is filling in for the spot on Squad. The house was about the get McAuleyed, so i had to step up"

Kelly nodded "oh, hey, that's great news for Mills, right?"

Brett "you just missed the craziest call. Unconscious victim, multiple broken bones, impaled on a lamppost. "

I asked irritated "how in the hell did that happen?"

Gabby "Total mystery. He did say something before he passed out, thought. Banana"

i shrugged "maybe he was hungry"

They chuckled.

Gabby eyed me and Kelly "and what the hell happened to you two?"

I smiled "Well, what do you think happened?"

Gabby "the one thing everybody's wanting to happen since you came back to Chicago"

Brett smiled "congrats, guys"

I smiled "thanks"

Gabby smiled "Shay would've loved this"

I nodded.

Gabby and Brett walked away.

I nodded "she would've loved this"

Kelly nodded and pressed me closer to him and kissed my temple.

At my place. Night.

I walked downstairs and saw Kelly leaning against the kitchen counter with a bottle of water in his hand.

Me "hey"

Kelly looked at me, smiling "hi, how are you feeling?"

Me "I really needed that shower to get that hospital smell off of me"

He nodded amused "Well, and here i thought you were already used to it "

I walked over to  him "not funny, Kelly"
