I sat behind the counter of the Diner I worked at. The employees were just me, my friend Joshua, the two cooks, and the boss. Joshua and I were waiters. We are both 20.

One day we saw a couple come in for breakfast. They sat down together at a booth. I went over and gave them menus.

"I'm Jane, and I'll be your server today. I'll give you sometime to look over the menus and I'll be back to take your drink orders." I said, smiling. "But before I go, can you please tell me your names? I like to address people by their first names when I'm serving them."

"I'm Annabeth." The girl said.

"I'm Percy." the boy said.

"Thank you!" I said, then walked over to Joshua behind the counter.

The boss comes over to me. The boss is a nice woman in her thirties. We're sort of friends.

"Hi!" I say.

"Hello!" she says back. "I have a new waitress and I need one of you to train her."

I raised my hand as a child would do to answer a question in school.

"Great!" The boss says. "She's in the back. Go talk to her, then all you have to do is have her walk around with you and take orders and stuff."

The boss walks away, and I walk into the back.

"Hi! I'm Jane. I'll be training you." I say to the person I'm training, then extend my hand.

The girl shakes it. "I'm Piper." She says.

"So you'll just be walking around with me for the day, taking orders and such. There's only two groups in the diner today, and my friend Joshua is already taking care of one of them." I explain. "Let's get to the table we're in charge of. But first, grab a pad of paper, an apron, a pen, and some straws. Just put the apron on and add the rest of the stuff in it."

Piper does what I told her and we walk out to the table I'm working with.

"Hello, again. Before I take your drink orders, I'd like to introduce you to our waitress in training, Piper." I say.

"Piper? You got a job here?" Annabeth asks.

"Yep." Piper replied.

"Well ain't this a coincidence." Percy says.

The three laugh.

"You guys know each other?" I ask.

"Yep. We're good friends from a camp we go to." Percy says.

"Piper is the coolest." Annabeth says.

"I thought I was the coolest, Wise Girl." Percy said.

"You are too, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth said, ruffling his hair.

I smiled at them.

I waited for a minute, then asked "Can I take your drink orders now?"

"Yep!" Percy said.

"I'll have orange juice." Annabeth says.

"I'll have milk." Percy said. "Could you add blue food coloring to it?"

"Sure." I said.

Piper and I walked away from the table. I put the order up.

"Seem easy enough?" I ask.

"Sure." Piper replies.

"You can take their food order. Let's give them a few minutes." I say.

We sit there for a minute. I introduce Piper to Joshua. After about 5 minutes, I get the drinks and take them back to the table with Piper. I set the drinks down, then step away so Piper can take their orders.

"I'll have the pancakes!" Percy says.

"I'll have an omelette." Annabeth says.

Piper writes down the stuff, and we go to put the order up.

"That was pretty easy." Piper said.

"Being a waitress can be easier than it looks." I say.

When the food is ready, we take it to their table.

"Thank you!" the two say.

I think today will be a good day.
