also if you are unaware from the first chapter, this is set in High School. You, Dib, and Zim are 15-16. Gaz is 14. I know that the show never really specifies Zim's age so I looked on the wiki and it says that he is already grown.
however in this story Irkens age just like humans but they live longer. Therefore, Zim is still at the teenager stage being 15 years old.

Your legs swished back and forth. The cold wind hit your face every time the swing brought you up. For a while, you closed your eyes and embraced the nostalgia of your happier childhood. When you use to release your energy by climbing and playing in sets of fun.
Rich laughter and screams of joy rang through your ears as you remember the rapid pumping in your heart from the excitement.

"Woo-hooo!" The volume in your voice increased every time your body went up and back down on the swing. It felt like you were flying. The sun shined in your eyes and cascaded its warmth on you. Fresh air blew against your hair. Everyone around you had a smile on their face.
It was perfect.
~☆~
It was perfect. The swings came back down as did your head from the clouds. You put your foot on the ground to stop your body from swinging. A shaky sigh came from your eyes as the whole scenery had changed from nostalgic to horrible.

Your eyes stared at the unfamiliar man talking with your mother. They both sat on the bench with certain expressions on their faces as inaudible words were exchanged.
"That's not daddy?" You muttered, seeing as the man put his hand on your mother's thigh. It moved upwards until your mother brushed him off and met your curious eyes.
She only smiled and put a finger to her lips and mouthed something. You didn't need to hear her words as you had already recognized them. The man your mother turned to also looked at you. He waved his fingers, winking at you. Your stomach churned as he turned back to your mother.
"This is our little secret."
~☆~
Your fingers clenched the chains of the swing. If you could turn back time, you would have got up and charged at the man until he left. Then you would cry at your mother's feet, begging her to be with your father.
But time couldn't be reversed. Trust couldn't be given back. You had to move on. The tears didn't stop falling from your eyes. They looked up at the sky in despair. Your heart throbbed painfully as if someone had stabbed it. A raspy sob came from your throat and you grasped your neck, feeling as if a barbed wire had been wrapped around it.
It hurt so badly. You wanted to stop this pain but instead, you let it out. Bottled up anger was released when started to cry. It had been five years since tears like these came and in a way you actually liked it. The pain was still there but so was another feeling. Like apart of you that went missing, the empty void, began to fill just a little.
The cold air nipped at your skin and the rain had already begun to make you its victim. Your hair was sobbing wet as were your clothes.
"(Name)?"
Your hair whipped around and smacked you in the face as you turned your head to answer the call of your name. There standing across the street from the park was Dib. He held an umbrella in his hands protecting him from the rain.
Seeing your messy state, the boy didn't hesitate to make his way over to you. His concern grew more than ever. Why were you even out here in such terrible weather? Dib's hazel eyes softened when he came closer.
"...Are you okay?" He questioned.
Blank eyes stared back at him. You didn't answer his question as you turned away and stared at the ground. It seemed to be more interesting right now.
Great now my pride is lowered. I cannot believe he is seeing me like this! I've shown him more emotion than I should. Why of all times was this boy here?
"I'm fine." You finally answered. "I like the rain anyways."
Dib scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah it's not so bad, but you could get sick." He went closer and put the umbrella in between both of you. He kneeled down and offered his hand to you.
"C'mon we can go to my house for a while until the weather clears." He smiled.
Your heartbeat fastened at sweet gesture. His eyes held such a soft gaze on you it stirred a foreign feeling in your stomach. Your eyes lowered to his outreached hand and slowly yours almost slipped in his.
So you slapped it away harshly. You wouldn't be fooled so easily. No matter how generous he may have been. That's how it all starts. Not just by your mother but you've experienced this before with others.
"Go away. I won't get sick."
"(Name), look I understand you don't particularly like me but please just come with me. If Gaz found out you were sick and knew that I was here, she would kill me. Plus knowing your dad, I don't think he'll be happy." Dib explained.
To your dismay, he was right. Your dad was very doting towards you and if he found out that his precious daughter was sick, you would not hear the end of it. His fatherly instincts were going to kick in and you could already imagine him babying you the whole day with nothing but soup, the old stories of his youth, and popping in to check on you every minute.
However, you still weren't going to accept Dib's offer. You got up and began to walk away.
"I'm going home." You said to him.
Yet at that moment when it was you that had chosen to walk away from an opportunity to begin something new like you've always had, something pulled you back. Maybe time did turn back, just in a different way.
If it wasn't the rain that caused your face to get pink, then it was probably because of Dib. His hand reached out to grab yours in a firm grip. His eyes were wide from his own actions as were yours.
The rain around you two was the only thing you both listened to, to distract the soft thumping of your heartbeats. Hazel and (e/c) eyes stared at one other.
