Club Day.
A day where everyone indulged in their favorite hobby/interest that was formed in a gathering. The seniors and juniors declared their promises or announcements about how cool their clubs are to persuade the lower classes.
"Chess club! We play chess!"
"Join the art club! Express yourself."
"Give us your attention! Give us your membership!"
Left and right, students tried to get others to sign for their clubs. In your perspective, you didn't like socializing but you weren't a total antisocial person. Some of the clubs did suit your interests.
You loved the arts. Whether it was performing or creations, all of it captured your heart. Besides music and reading, you just adored everything about art. The way the emotions were expressed through every splash of color and pattern to create a message.
In your spare time, you sometimes drew random pictures that either came out decent and then there were days you could do better. You pondered on joining the creative class but seeing a half-hearted expression on the member's faces, you walked away.
Next, there was an anime club. Narrowing your eyes at the boy in the Naruto jumpsuit yet wore an eyepatch made you sick. So, you passed the table with your eyes focused in front and continued on your way.
Though, besides every other unusual club, there was one that caught your eye. It was a space-themed booth with cute hand-drawn stars attached to the legs of the stand. The table holding the colorful poster read the words, Paranormal Activities Club, and there sitting on a chair with an eager expression on his face, was Dib.
With curious eyes, you walked over to his booth. The closer you got, you noticed more decorations of color printed aliens and ghost taped to the poster.
"Ah, (Name)! I'm glad you're here. You should join my club, it's really cool. Yeah, I did this all by myself." Dib stated proudly.
He nonchalantly passed you the list along with the silver pen.
"What do you do?" You questioned.
"All sorts of awesome things!" He wiggled his brows. "I promise that we will search high and low to solve the mysteries of this world. I've got the ultimate gadgets and inventions that will help our process."
The way he included you as if you were already apart of his club made it imply that he must really want you to join. He leaned forward towards you and grabbed your shoulders. Your eyes widened when he grinned. You tried to brush off the swirling feeling in your stomach as he looked at you intensely with his big hazel eyes.
"So will you join?" Dib asked softly.
"Y-yeah, sure. These clubs are all boring anyway." To your relief, Dib pulled away and gave you a warm smile. But it didn't match the tingling warmth on your shoulders. You looked down at the sign-up sheet and discovered that you--besides Dib-- were the only member to have joined.
"So, has anyone else been here?" You signed your name and gave it to Dib.
His cheeks turned a rosy color as he rubbed the back of his neck. "No, not really." He sighed in disappointment for a second before turning to you. "But numbers don't really matter, right. As long as you are with someone you enjoy then that's all I care about."
He enjoys me? You thought.
"I-"
"Aha, why don't you look at that! Dib-stink and hooman-girl are starting their own crap club." Came an obnoxious voice.
Zim strutted along the hallways and stood right beside you as he eyed Dib's stand. "What kind of crap is this?" His emphasis on that word irritated you.
"Oh, this? This is a club in which evil creatures like you are prohibited from joining. Now back away, alien crap." Dib brought out a water bottle and violently shook it.
You tilted your head when Zim screeched in panic and zoomed right behind you. However, in that moment, his clawed gloves wrapped around your waist and hugged you in fear. You could feel the claws dig into your shirt as he whimpered.
"No! Don't you dare, Dib-stink!"
He's scared! Just a second ago, he had no problem facing Dib.
Dib also shared a look of shock seeing Zim's claws on your waist, hugging your body close to his. Dib suddenly found himself clutching his fists and growling at the close proximity of you and the alien.
"Hey! Get your filthy alien hands off-"
"Will you please remove yourself from me." You cut Dib off, lifting your arms up. "I get it your scared, but I am not a shield."
Zim stayed silent as he released you. He cleared his throat backing away, sending you a troubled look as he dusted himself off. He observed you for a few seconds and you did the same. The light reflected against his eyes, shining like porcelain. It was as if they were fake.
"The Zim is NEVER scared." He hissed, finally looking away from you.
"You literally-"
"NEVER!" He cut you off.
Then Dib spoke up, "Dude, you totally-"
"NEVER SCARED! YOU LIE! LIEEEEE. YOU LIARS!" Zim screamed out. He whacked the water bottle out of Dib's hand as ran in a different direction.
"That was weird." You shook your head.
"Right, I can't believe he just grabbed you." Dib glared in the direction of where Zim last stood. A protective sense overwhelmed him. When he saw the locked gazes between you and Zim, it triggered something in him.
"I was talking about Zim, himself. He's weirder than that Keef boy." You corrected.
You and Dib glanced over to the art club and stared at the ginger-haired boy with lively green eyes. He was sitting down in a crisscross manner whilst holding a squirrel. The two of you shared a similar look and sighed.
"Zim's always been the same. He thinks he can conquer the world yet every time he tries, he fails. I intend to keep it that way and make sure that the Earth remains safe."
As Dib spoke, there was a glint of hope and joy mixed in his eyes. A fond smile overcame his features when his hazel flickered over to you.
"And now with you by my side, I can finally share the moment with someone. Thank you, (Name). I promise that together we'll both triumph in finding out mysteries in the future." He stared at you with determination.
"I'm glad that you feel this way." You said, unsure of what else to say. His appreciation got you slightly flustered so you weren't able how to respond back. You knew he was enthusiastic about finally having someone to enjoy his hobbies, but was that the only reason he wanted you by his side?
No, told you he cared. Nobody was there to share his interest and until now you were that person he appreciated. You remembered his sullen face back when his dad dismissed his passion as if it were a silly dream. You found yourself not wanting to see it again. A mutual expression of determination crossed your face.
"I can't wait." Dib's smile widened with your response.
"Me too. Now, let's start talking more about ghosts. I have this cool new..." Dib began talking as you listened.
