You stared at your phone in disbelief.
Dib Membrane:
Please open your window. Urgent!!
How dare that boy act as if he can suddenly walk in your life and expect to be welcomed again. You weren't going to fooled again. So, you threw your phone back on your bed and flopped down on it.You closed your eyes and vigorously wiped away the tears that threatened to spill out. The wounds were still fresh, and despite trying to get over him, you couldn't. It hurt that you grew attached to the boy more than you realized.
Even if it was in a short span of time, the subtle moments and eye contact between you felt like you knew each other longer. Each time you felt his touch or in his presence, a volt of electricity spread through your body. You hadn't known about this as you were too busy shutting him out. Though your heart betrayed you and increased every time he was around.
But all it was flushed down the drain when you realized that this was all in your head. It was a simple fantasy that you weren't going to long for because this wasn't some fairytale. You weren't going to be vulnerable. You weren't going to be fooled.
Feelings were for people who wanted to create something that wouldn't last forever. Your dad was the living proof.
A knock at your window had you spring up from your bed, as you curled up in the sheets. Your curtains covered the sight of whoever was there which was most likely Dib. Unknown to you, tears streamed down your eyes and your breath quickened. It was too soon to see him. You were just starting to pick up the broken pieces of yourself.
"(Name), please." His voice pleaded.
Your fingers gripped the bed sheets as he knocked again. Your phone then began to vibrate as Dib's caller ID popped up on the screen. It went on for a couple of seconds, before going to voicemail. Then, once more. He knocked and called, expecting you to answer because he thought you would.
No. You gritted your teeth and glared at the window.
Minutes passed, but Dib didn't give up. He knew that this was bound to go wrong and you were probably getting irritated with his presence, yet if it meant that you'd snap in his face then he'd take it. Anything to see you. To hear your voice.
He held onto his phone as it was still ringing.
"Please, I need to talk. I know you're upset and angry with me, but I really need to explain everything." He pressed his head against the window. "You didn't deserve this."
"I missed you...I missed us." He whispered. He blushed and quickly added, "Our friendship."
"Then why did you let me go?" He heard your voice pick up.
Dib's eyes glanced up to see your glossy eyes. He stared at you helplessly as you gazed back at him with loathing. The two of you didn't know what to say to the other as your eyes did all the speaking. He closed his own and shook his head.
"Because I didn't know what I had until I lost it. I was an idiot, but you just have to let me explain." He begged.
"Why aren't you with Tak?" You narrowed your eyes. "Isn't she your new girlfriend or-"
"No." Dib cut you off. He bit his lip, looking away, "I'm not with her."
Your gaze never faltered as you leaned closer to the window. "I'm not one of your inventions, you don't get to build me up and then pick me apart once my purpose is done. You may be able to make friends in a day, but that's not who I am."
Dib nodded and listened.
"When my mom left, I didn't want anyone coming in my life only to leave it again. You were the first person that I believed would actually stay and I was wrong to think that way." You bitterly spat.
"Yes you were." Dib argued. He stared in your eyes with as much intensity as yours held. The reflection on his glasses shined bright, making his eyes clear.
"How would you know?" You scoffed.
"Because I choose to come back. Your mom and all the others who were in your life, I'm not them. You're the first person who's wanted to be around me and not even Tak could replace that." He said.
"I can spend hours talking about the way you make me feel." He admitted.
Your cheeks heated up as soft rain drops began to fall from the dark clouds of the night. Though, you weren't focused on the rain. The way you made him feel...did that mean he had the same feelings you had?
You dropped your phone and unlocked the window as the rain poured violently at his coat. His eyes grew curious as your hands lifted up the window, your body stepping away when the window was up.
"You'll be more of a nuisance if you're sick." You muttered, gazing away from him.
His eyes softened seeing your sudden shy attitude. He stepped in your room with a slight shiver since his body was immediately welcomed with warmth. You quickly shut the window not wanting any water to get in.
There was silence. Rain hitting your window was what kept the mood from being so tense. Dib sat on the carpet against the wall. You sat across from him, leaning against your bed. He stayed quiet, but still kept a soft gaze on you.
