~♡~Music blasted through the ears of all the students occupying the gymnasium. Several teachers were at stand by to monitor the students if any inappropriate or disrespectful behavior were to occur. They wished they were anywhere else.
The walls surrounding them from the light rain were decorated in black with rows of grey and white string displayed in a zig zag pattern on each corner. At the top, above everyone, was a disco ball to set the cliche mood. Of course, it wasn't real and was crafted by the art club on short notice.
One boy in particular stayed away from the whole setting and sat in a back table with his normal sized head propped up on his palm. He took a sip of fruit punch from the plastic cup and looked on at the dancing couples.
"There you are."
Dib sighed and forced a smile on his lips as he looked up to his date. His eyes scanned her appearance with slight interest as a way to seem impressed. As much as he hated to admit, Tak didn't disappoint.
Her slender legs were exposed due to the form fitting purple dress she wore. It stopped at her thighs and traveled to her collarbone, also exposing her cleavage with the shawl hanging around her arms. Her gracefully long neck craned to the side, causing the prized necklace and her slicked short hair to follow her movements.
"You look handsome." She gushed.
Her painted nails grasped his arm. She smirked, admiring how the tuxedo he wore captured the intellectual and sophisticated appeal he naturally had.
"Gee, thanks." He stopped the urge to ga gag.
His eyes look away from her as she giggles. The sound was enough to make him cringe in distaste. It used to be kind of endearing, but now it was shrilly like nails dragging across a chalkboard. This pretending was harder than ever now that he realized her true nature. That and his feelings for you.
Boy, did he want you by his side more than ever.
With a longing gaze drawn on his features, Tak smirked. Unbeknown to her, he wasn't thinking of her like she thought he was.

"And this will help?" You raised a brow, looking down at the MP3 player Gaz gave you.
"Yeah. Plug those suckers in and it'll block all of the crappy music." Gaz smirked.
"So, you're going to be ready, right? I trust you but I don't want you to get hurt." You said with worry in your eyes.
Gaz huffed, tugging at her dress and crossed her arms. She raised a brow at you saying, "Look at who you're talking to. I once targeted this idiot for stealing my game system. He transferred schools and was never heard from again." She chuckled. "I think I can handle some stupid alien chick."
You sent her a look, "First off, I'm not surprised. Second, what makes you think Tak is an alien?"
"Your bird, Zim, that wierd necklace around her throat. I can go on about the unnatural things on this planet, but I really don't and I'm hungry." She responded.
This whole situation was a headache and you didn't want to get into it either, but how in the hell did she not care about all of this? Also, if Tak was an alien, then that just adds to the pile of bizarre things.
"Didn't you know that birds are one of the keen animals? They have sharp eyes for anything. Think of hawks when they're searching for prey, they observe and wait for the right moment to strike." She explained.
"How does that have to do with Tak being an alien and my bird?" You shook your head in confusion.
Gaz rolled her eyes, "Mo saw his prey, Tak. He was observing her and waited until he was sure about striking. I'm missing an alien plush from my room. Put two and two together, (Name)." She flicked your forehead before walking out of the restroom.
You pursed your lips at the complex girl and sighed, following her out. On your way out, you happened to bump into someone who came in.
"Sorry, my ba- woah..." You paused in astonishment, looking at the unfamiliar girl in front of you.
"What?" She gasped in distress and placed a hand to her face. "Is my makeup ruined already ruined?"
"Not at all, you look really pretty."
To her own surprise, your voice and reaction was genuine. A small blush appeared over her cheeks as she looked down at her violet dress. Her fingers subconsciously gripped at the cloak behind her. You suspected she was being shy about her new appearance, although you didn't think she should be. Her usual messy ponytails were gone and replaced with soft waves that framed her heart shaped face. Her eyelids sparkled in a pink glittery pattern with miniature hearts that shaped her doe-like eyes and matched her rosy cheeks.
"Thanks, uh, you as well." Gretchen stared at your outfit.
You thanked her and went to the side, but she made the mistake of doing the same. She clumsily shifted on her feet to move out of way, except you did too resulting in an awkward dance.
"Sorry." She frowned.
"Don't worry."
"I meant, for everything." Gretchen sighed deeply. "Dib, being a nuisance, and this whole love rival thing." Pink lips upturned in a saddened smile. Images of the ravenette boy smiling caused butterflies to flutter their wings repeatedly in the depths of her stomach. Those handsome smiles weren't for or because of her.
"Seriously, like I don't think I even had a chance with him from the beginning." Her eyes glossed over to the mirror, staring at herself.
She wasn't eye-catching or the least bit interesting in any way, yet her insecurities weren't part of the excuses she piled up to keep herself from taking that big leap to give her heart to Dib.
It was the rejection and hurtful truth. Seeing you and him opened her eyes to the harsh reality. Years of silent admiring and small interactions couldn't what you and Dib had in a second. She was sure he was incapable of possessing romantic feelings for a girl he barely new, but Gretchen knew it was more than that. Ever since you came up until now, there was a slight difference.
"You should tell him."
Gretchen's eyes widened as you uttered those words. Her heart tightened at the scenario. It made choke up a laugh seeing as she clutched her stomach. The girl fully stumbled into the restroom, your words sinking in.
"I can't, I already know the answer." She shook her head. "Besides, he has you and Tak. Oh, and his obsession with Zim." She remembered how the two had a wierd relationship.
"Just me... and Zim." You corrected.
"Whoever he has in his life, I won't be apart of it." Gretchen swallowed down her negative thoughts. Mentioning Tak brought up the jealousy and annoyance. It reminded her of how she disliked Dib and Tak together.
"Damn, Keef is waiting for me." The girl suddenly forgot about the heartfelt conversation and ran back out of the restroom.
You slowly walked out as well and rubbed your temples.
"Finally! How long does a female human need to-" Zim was silenced as you narrowed your piercing (color) eyes. He quickly stood up with a puffed chest and tugged you with him. "Who cares. Let's get this affair over with so I can shove my date in Dib-stink's face."
"You won't-"
"Shove!" He screamed.
Great, now you wondered if Zim was the real love rival instead of Gretchen.

Heyyy I'm back. I'm sorry for these agonizing chapters of the dance I want to make sure I'm involving the characters and plot. We all riding the slow burn coaster 😂
Was I foreshadowing something in this chapter? Maybe...maybe not
