still Isabelle's point of view

My heartbeat slightly calmed down when on our way to her office she asked other teachers to follow us as well.
So maybe it wouldn't be about what I was thinking. I was really mentally praying, but what if she was gathering all the teachers to show them what would be my punishment for falling for a student? She would definitively fire me and end my teaching career. I actually wasn't feeling any better now that my colleagues were following us.

I forced myself to focus on the regular pace of her heels hitting the hard ground, knowing I had no other choice than calmly wait and see. I couldn't just run away, no matter how hard I wanted to.

We were at the most four teachers. I honestly couldn't even count properly, all my thoughts were focused on Miss White, in the center of the not very luminous room, creating a creepy atmosphere around her.

"I'm sorry to interrupt your evening, but I would like to inform you about a decision we took with the school council."

Okay she was going to fire me.
She was going to fire me.
Oh my god, could I jump out of this window?
Ugh too high.
The door was definitely out of the way so I was trapped.

Nervously folding my arms in front of me, I did my very best to not let the other see how I was just dying on the inside.

"We decided we would organize another trip to increase our students' performances in languages and history." The principal began, making me release an inaudible sigh.

We weren't talking about Amanda and I.
They didn't know, or it would obviously have been the first thing we would have talked about.
Gosh I was relieved to know that.

"It will be really different than last time. First of all it will last longer, and it will be much more serious than the previous trip to Manchester some of you made. No more city treasure hunt and fun activities like that. We just made a partnership with the best Parisian school, our students will work as much, if not more than they actually do here."

Only one word caught my attention, therefore I couldn't help but interrupt her speech.
"Excuse me madam,.. Parisian? We're going to France?"

"Yes. Well you're here because you are our best teachers and we really would like you to accompany the children. But of course if there's any family obligations or personal issues keeping you here we'll find other teacher to replace you."

At this very moment all I wanted to do was laugh. France, really?

"It wouldn't include any additional expenses for you, nor for the students' families as we're really lucky to receive an important scholarship this year."

"But we don't even teach french here, why wouldn't they go to.. I don't know, Spain?" I voiced out, not realizing I was being kinda rude for continuously interrupting her like that.

My eager questions seemed to make some of my colleagues frown, whereas some of them gave me a slight nod, agreeing with me saying it was absolute bullshit.

"That will be the occasion to learn it! Our students always showed the desire to learn that language, what better way to do so than going there for a while? The students of your classes are prioritized if they want to attend this non obligatory program, so you'll need to inform them next week."

So if I was understanding right I will be sent to France, as I didn't have any obligation to stay here, while Amanda would stay here all alone because I was sure all her friends would want to attend that fucking trip.
Alright.
What a shitty situation.
