chapter twenty six ~ the one where heckles dies
Heather's POV

Finally, after what felt like years, I was moving into my new apartment. This would be the first place that I would be living in by myself and it was the first place that would be completely mine. Sure, I was grateful for everything that my friends had done for me recently, especially my brother, who had let me stay with him but now was my time to pack up and move on. Leave behind the life that I had almost had with Carl and start something new. I was working on my Real Estate license and was hoping to complete everything in the next few months so I could look for a permanent job with a company in the city. Everything was starting to work out for me and I was glad, because if anything else had gone wrong then I probably wouldn't have been able to do any of this. But because of my friends and the help that they gave me, I was moving on with my life and it was going to be even better than the one I had always seen myself having.

The only bad thing about moving is the actual moving part because I had just got all of my things in neat places at Chandler's apartment but now, I had to pack them back up and move them to the building across the street. The apartment that I had fallen in love with was across the street from my friends, it was affordable and had everything I needed, plus it was only a few minutes away from where everyone else was. It had two bedrooms but I was going to use the smaller one as a study, where I could finish up my license work without being disturbed or distracted by anything else in the apartment. I had everything planned out and was more than excited to be able to decorate this place the way that I wanted, instead of keeping things minimum because of whoever else was around. This was my apartment and I was going to make it the way that I wanted it to be made.

With this move, I wanted to be more independent and do things by myself but what I didn't realise was that packing up boxes and moving them across the street was actually a lot harder to do by yourself; especially when neither place has an elevator and you're moving heavy things on your own. So, I walk across the hall to where all of my friends were hanging out at Monica and Rachel's apartment; something that I currently took for granted and would miss when I moved out. But when I entered the room, I wasn't getting a particularly good vibe from any of them and they all seemed upset about something.

"What's happened to you guys, it looks like someone died?" I tried to joke as I closed the door behind me but none of them felt like joking.

"That's because someone did." Ross answered me, a solemn expression on his face.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, who was it?"

Chandler sighed. "Mr Heckles."

"Mr Heckles?" I repeated, recognising the name but taking a moment to think about why I recognised his name. "Wait, is he the guy who put Marcel in a dress?"

"Was." Joey mumbled, leaning back on the couch.

"It's very faint but I can still sense him in the building." Phoebe told me as I perched on the arm of the chair, she suddenly leaned upwards and yelled. "Go into the light, Mr Heckles!"
