chapter thirty eight ~ the one with the new armchairs
Heather's POV

Ever since I moved to the city and got my relationship with my brother back on track, we had been trying to spend time together, just the two of us to build our relationship into something even better than when we were kids. Growing up, we hadn't had the worst relationship but we would fight just like any other siblings would and when we became teenagers, our parents sent us off to different boarding schools so we lost touch. Now that we were both adults and were living in the same place, we agreed to spend time together so that we could be the kind of siblings that we had always wanted to be. We always looked up to the relationship that Monica and Ross had, wanting that for ourselves and although our relationship would never be the same as that, we knew that once we reached a comfortable point with each other then nothing would ever break us. Not even the idea of moving to the other side of the world.

Due to the things that had happened to us growing up and the changes that were made to our family, we knew that no matter what nothing would separate us. We had almost been separated when we went to boarding school, but now that we had been given this opportunity to rekindle our sibling bond, we weren't going to let it slide. Which was why every week, I would meet my brother for a lunch and we would talk about whatever we wanted to; having no rules for this lunch tradition that we had started. Sometimes the conversations would be serious, especially when it concerned his love life but other times we would just enjoy messing around and coming up with the best jokes that we could; as that was something that we had in common. Our humour.

So, when Chandler didn't turn up at Central Perk on time, the regular meeting place where we would go to then decide where we were eating. I thought something must be seriously wrong. If something had come up and he was busy then he would have called me, if he was ill then he would have called me but instead I had no missed calls or voicemails on my phone; which forced me to walk over to his building and find out exactly what was going on. As I was heading into the building, there was a pizza delivery guy, trying to knock on the door opposite; immediately I knew that this pizza was for Chandler or Joey because it was their habit of sending it across the hall so that the girls would walk it straight to them. To save the guy from being fired because he was taking too long, I paid for the pizza and pushed open the door to my brother's apartment.

"How much do I owe you?" Chandler said as I came into the apartment.

"Nothing, if you let me have some."

Joey answered before my brother could. "Deal!"

I dropped the box onto the counter and opened it, checking that it was already sliced so that we wouldn't have to argue about who was eating what; as I knew for sure that Joey would steal more than his allocated slices when sharing pizza. Then I noticed that neither of the boys had gotten out of their chairs to get their slices and then I realised that they had bought a giant television and were both reclined on new chairs. When I came in, I was so focused on the pizza that I didn't even realise that they had bought new furniture or that there was a horrible smell throughout the apartment which meant that they hadn't showered in a while.
