chapter twenty nine ~ the one with the fake surrogate
Heather's POV

It was just another casual afternoon and I was in my apartment, all morning I had been reading and studying for a quiz that I had for my licence and I had been relieved when it was over. All of this studying was good for me, it was making me feel independent and reminding me of how well I did when I was in school. Hopefully if I studied hard enough then I would pass with high marks and end up at a good company, where I could earn loads of money and be more successful than anyone else in this trade. That was my plan anyway. I hadn't seen any of my friends since the night before when we had a takeaway at Monica's apartment and I was missing them. Even though they were only across the street, it was weird being this far away and I missed having them across the hall. Now, I just had a super unfriendly neighbour across the hall and I hated it.

A knock at the door brought me out of my thoughts and I put down the book I had been reading to answer it. A smile widened on my face when I recognised who was on the other side and immediately unlocked the door to welcome my friends into the apartment. Joey and Chandler were stood with several different baby things surrounding them and Joey was holding little Ben in his arms. I awed at the sight of the little baby, who was getting bigger every time I saw him and soon enough, he wouldn't be baby Ben anymore. That was something weird to think about and I wasn't ready for that to happen any time soon.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked, taking Ben into my own arms, placing him on my hip and making funny faces at him to make him smile.

Joey cleared his throat, watching me hold the baby. "We're looking after Ben for the afternoon and wanted to know if you wanted to come along?"

"Yeah, I'd love to. I haven't seen little Benny in ages."

"Cool. Great. Fantastic." Chandler said, as I looked up and noticed that he was very jumpy and couldn't seem to stay still.

"What's wrong with you?"

"I really need the bathroom."

"He should have gone before we left, I did tell him to." Joey frowned, before a thought came into his head and he was distracted. "That reminds me, do you have anything to eat here?"

"Joey, I live here, of course there's food."

"Well, I forgot to pack lunch and I'm starving-"

"Oh my God." A voice behind the boys interrupted whatever Joey was saying to me and I almost groaned out loud at who had interrupted our conversation. The one person that I couldn't stand and the one person who lived across the hall from me, he rarely ever spoke a word to me but now that my friends were here, he decided to pay attention and say something that I would find offensive. "Just when I thought that I was wrong about you."

"Who's that guy?" Joey said, his voice hushed as he spoke to me, a frown evident on his face as he obviously didn't like this guy either.

"My neighbour, just ignore him."
