chapter fifty seven ~ the one with the job interview
Heather's POV

Working in the diner wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, sometimes I wished that people were nicer and that the uniform didn't look like something from a cheesy 60's movie but it wasn't the worst job in the world. Working with Monica wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, maybe because she was behind the counter most of the time and I was waitressing; so, we didn't really bump into each other but it was actually kind of fun. I was dreading the day that someone that I knew came into the diner because that would be embarrassing, especially if one of my exes came in because there was no way that I would be serving them. Not dressed in this outfit either. But in all seriousness my outfit wasn't as bad as the one that Monica had to wear, she had a wig and fake boobs but all I had was a light blue waitress dress because they didn't have enough budget to make me wear something extravagant. Not that I was complaining though.

Spending time at Monica and Rachel's apartment was more common now and we even would spend time there in the morning before heading off to work. It was still weird to think that we all had separate jobs to do when we weren't together and felt strange that we were all working towards something different. I was leaning on the counter, sipping the coffee that I had made before walking across to this building and watching as my brother grabbed a bottle of sauce from the cupboard. Rachel, Joey and Ross were sat around the table, helping themselves to whatever food that Monica had got up early that morning to serve and were also watching Chandler as he got very excited about the drink that he was making. "Yeah, baby!"

"What are you doing?" Ross questioned, frowning at my brother.

Chandler started stirring the drink as he answered. "Making chocolate milk, you want some?"

"No thanks. I'm twenty-nine."

"Oh my God, I've got to go to work." Rachel exclaimed, standing up and rushing to get her belongings.

This morning I was at the apartment because I was once again waiting for Monica so that we could head over to the diner together. Our shifts were pretty much the same and I was grateful for that because it meant that I always had at least one friendly face whilst I was working. Plus, I knew that if a customer was ever rude to me, I would have someone in my corner to defend me; as that was something, we could all rely on Monica to do. She wasn't scared of confrontation and was also not scared of losing this job; in fact, she hated it so much that she probably wondered several times an hour whether she should just quit before she stays here permanently. That was something we had in common, neither of us wanted this to be a permanent job because we both had dreams to chase; therefore, we were here to remind each other that this was not our future and that hopefully we would be leaving here very soon.

"Hey, look at you." Joey grinned as Phoebe came into the apartment, carrying rollerblades under her arms as she placed them on the coffee table. "Since when do you rollerblade?"
