chapter thirty one ~ the one with the obvious song
Heather's POV

Ever since Phoebe had told me that the reason for my neighbour being so rude was because he liked me, I had avoided him whenever I could. If I needed to go out of my apartment, then I would check my peep-hole to make sure that he wasn't in the hall and if I needed to go downstairs to get my post then I would wait until one of my friends came to visit, so that they could check whether the coast was clear or not. It was mad, and I knew how childish I was reacting to the whole thing but I couldn't stand the guy and I didn't want to chance what Phoebe was saying. What if I asked him if he liked me and that just egged him on to make fun of me more than he already does? Everyone in the building thinks that they know who I am because of his rumours and I don't want them to think even more badly of me. Right now, I just need to avoid him and try to get on with my life.

Luckily, one place that I know I won't run into him in is Central Perk and boy am I glad about that. I don't know what I would do if the Coffee House was ruined by his presence; I would have to try and convince my friends to find somewhere else to drink coffee or ask Gunther to remove him for the premises. However, I don't think he's allowed to do that just because one of his customers doesn't like the other. As much as I wished that he would do something like that for me, I don't know if Gunther actually likes me or if he just puts up with me because my friends are regulars. Just like any other day, I head over to the Coffee House for my usual drink and just like any other day, my friends are already there.

Chandler was sat in the armchair, raving about his computer and I was glad to come in just at the end of his rant because I was with him when he bought the thing and heard all about it already. I didn't need a second rant about how fast the computer would work because in true Chandler fashion, he had bought it to play games on it; so, he would never use the computer to its full potential anyway. I drop my purse onto the coffee table and take a seat next to Joey on the couch because on his other side is Monica, who was flicking nervously through the newest edition of the newspaper. The only person who acknowledged me coming in was Phoebe, who was on one of the stools, with her guitar in her hands; and I knew exactly why she was staring at me.

"So, how's your handsome neighbour doing?"

I sighed. "I'm avoiding him at all costs, and I never said he was handsome, all I said was that he's annoying and rude."

"No, but for you to be worked up about him, he must be attractive." Phoebe shrugged. "I mean, look at your exes, Carl was hot even though he was a piece of crap."

"Hey, did you know that Ross and Rachel kissed last night?" Joey slapped my arm, changing the conversation and distracting me from whatever point Phoebe was trying to make.

"No, but that's great news! So, he broke up with Julie, right?"

Chandler winced when I said Julie's name and that told me everything I needed to know. Ross and Rachel had kissed, showing their feelings for each other but Ross hadn't fully made up his mind about which girl he was going to choose and was therefore, still dating Julie. Honestly, sometimes guys are so stupid and it's so obvious who he should choose. He should go with Rachel, the girl that he's been in love with since he was a child and he should dump the girl that tried to convince him that buying a cat after a few weeks of dating, was a good idea. I was about to go into a full-on rant about men when Monica unknowingly changed the topic.
