Those of you familiar with my works, know that I choose not to write slow burns, and I prefer writing about married couples as for Muslims, it's the only halal romantic relationship.

Any drama, or problems are faced by the couple after marriage.

If you are familiar with the desi marriage procedure, you will know that at some point everyone becomes a private investigator, especially the adults. I barely told my parents about Anaya on the phone, and Mamma started making phone calls to her friends and relatives in Lahore, finding out about the Yasir family.

Two days later, she had sent a matchmaking Aunty to their house, to start discussing my marriage to Anaya. It blows my mind how quickly they get things done when they want to. Ya Allah, I literally just saw the girl, and they are already ready for the wedding. I haven't even spoken to her once.

"Mamma, are you kidding me?" I asked my mother on a video call. "What was the rush?"

"Rush? You're twenty-nine!" Mamma looked horrified like I had just said something sinful.

"Mamma, Sumi married the guy their daughter had been engaged to!" I paced my hotel room. "And now you want us to show up on their doorstep with a rishta? I don't know about you, but it sounds too much like rubbing salt in their wounds."

"How's their daughter getting married to you rubbing salt in their wounds? You're handsome, successful, and a very good person. What else do they need for their daughter?"

"Allah!" I glanced up heavenward, silently pleading with Allah to make her understand. "They just got badly betrayed by her potential husband, and now you want me to go in like I was standing in a bloody queue? She's a girl, not a cow, that if one buyer isn't interested, the other one shows up to have a look. You have daughters, Mamma. Imagine how you'd feel."

"Let's make a deal. Get to know her on social media." She suggested. "You two won't be meeting up in a haram manner, and you will get to have an idea about each other's personalities before we take the next step. I'll speak to her parents on the phone, and we'll see how it goes."

"Okay...I'm hanging up now. I think you need some rest, Mamma." I said. "Allah Hafiz. Take care of yourself and Dad."  I hung up.

*Allah Hafiz: May Allah be your guardian.

Well, this is my own fault. I shouldn't even have mentioned Anaya. Now Mamma's all excited. I need to learn to shut up around my family. As much as I loved them, they annoyed the hell out of me as well.

Anaya

The Fajr Adhan rang out over the city of Lahore, making me smile. Adhan comforted me in so many ways that I can't even begin to describe it. There were many times when I had been suffering from nightmares, and the sound of the Fajr Adhan had broken through the nightmares and pulled me out, and it had actually sent goosebumps over my arms as I thought of the perfect timing. I was distressed, and the call for prayer had pulled me back out, washing me with a feeling of safety.

*Fajr is the first prayer of the day, just before sunrise. Adhan is the call for prayers.

I had been thinking about my marriage proposal all night. On what basis did Faiz's family sent over a rishta? He had literally not even heard a word come out of my mouth. If it was based on my appearance (and I'm not saying that I'm gorgeous or anything), then I strongly disapproved. I have to be honest, if a guy selects me for my mind, I wouldn't even care what he looks like, because he would have shown me how good he was on the inside.
