"I'm going to Canada tomorrow!" Kiran's excited voice came through my phone.

It had been a month since Faiz initially decided to move into his family home, and three weeks since we'd actually moved in. During this time, Kiran's visa had also come through, and she had gotten married. I was beyond disappointed that I couldn't go, but I didn't think it was right to fly back to Lahore so quickly after coming here. Just because Faiz and Gul Aunty insisted that I go, didn't mean that I could leave just like that. I had to handle my married life sensibly.

I was currently sitting on my bed in our bedroom, in the middle of watching a Disney film on Disney+. When I'd told Faiz that I loved watching Disney films, especially the princess ones, he had subscribed me to the streaming service and now I had a freedom to watch anything and everything all day- not that I did. Even though Aunty had maids, she liked to work in her kitchen, and I enjoyed chatting to her as I helped her. Kiran had called me to tell me the exciting news, and I had been really glad to hear from her.

"But...guess what?!" She asked.

"What?"

"I'm transiting in London, and we're going to stay a night there!" She squealed happily.

I squealed as well, hearing the news. I couldn't believe that my bestie was coming, even for one day. "I'm so happy to hear that! I'll finally see someone from Lahore!"

"So I land tomorrow afternoon at one, In Sha Allah." She said. "And we leave the day after at five in the evening."

"That's over twenty-four hours!" I gasped, excitedly. "Allah! I've missed you so much, Kiran."

"Me too, yaar." She sighed. "Shadi ke baad ehsas hota hai ke life kitni badal jaati hai."

*"We realise after marriage how much life changes."

"Seriously."

There was a knock on the door.

"Kiran, I'll call you later, okay?" I said, before calling out. "Come in!"

The door opened and Rumaisa walked in as I ended the call. "Bhabi, can I borrow your eyeliner? Mine was 'borrowed' by Dania, and now she can't find it."

"Sure, go ahead." I nodded towards the dressing table.

This had become a common routine. One or another one of my Nands would come and borrow something from me. I didn't mind. In fact, I took this as an opportunity to talk to them. Otherwise the whole day, everybody was busy in their own rooms. When Aunty wasn't in the kitchen, she went up to her room to rest, as she was often drained of energy. Rida and her kids had gone back home. Sumaira, who'd officially started her divorce proceedings, remained at home, often in a meeting with her lawyer, who came to the house to talk to her. Because the marriage was performed here, the divorce process would be completed here as well. Dania now had a job, as a Sales Assistant at a designer store. She had a great knowledge of fashion, which made her excellent at her new job. Rumaisa was about to start university recently, and was either attending lectures or seminars, or was out with her new friends. As for Hareem, she had started focusing on school, taking tuitions after school to help her with subjects that she was struggling with. And Faiz, as usual, was busy at work.

"So, what time will you be getting home?" I asked Rumi.

She applied eyeliner in my room, then blinked, checking out her reflection. "Ooh, can I borrow these?" She held up my hoop earrings that had been lying on the table.
