Anaya
It was Rida's birthday, and she and Waqas Bhai had organised a dinner for our family.
I choose to wear a long cream frock dress with a golden border at the hem, and with green intricate designs that started heavily at the bottom and decreased just below the waistline. There was also a modest green design at the hemline, and printed on the upper arm of the transparent sleeves. Along with a cream chudidaar (tights), and a lace dupatta with a gold border. I paired the outfit with cream high heels that I'd bought in Liberty just before my Rukhsati-Valima.
Dania curled my hair and applied natural shades of make-up.
"Thanks, Dani." I said.
"Anytime." She smiled. She had chosen a western outfit, a long red lace dress with black skinny jeans and red high heel stilettos. She'd went to the parlour earlier in the day, getting a layered hair style with light brown streaks, which really suited her. "Now, I need to go and help Rumi out. She was confused about her outfit." She turned and left the room.
I was just adjusting my dupatta when Faiz walked in, looking perfect as usual in his black trousers, and a white button down shirt. "You ready?" He asked.
"No, I'm in my night dress." I said, sarcastically. "If you look up from your phone, you'd realise what a beautiful wife you have." I was just teasing him, of course. But it was also true that I was less insecure about myself since I had moved here with Faiz.
He looked up, but his face remained emotionless.
"Well?" I asked him when he didn't speak.
"That's a fancy night dress." Was all he said.
Frowning, I grabbed my perfume bottle, took its cap off and aimed it at him, almost like a weapon. "Compliment me or I'll spray you."
"Are you threatening me with perfume?" He chuckled.
"Saleem used to run off each time Sumbal threatened him with perfume." I shrugged. "It's like guys are allergic to women's perfume."
"I'm not afraid. Spray me."
"You are so annoying that it's actually unbelievable." I began to walk past him, but he grabbed my wrist.
"If it wasn't Rida's birthday, you and I would have stayed home." He said, pulling me closer and wrapping his arms around me. "Beautiful is not a strong enough word to describe you, Anaya. Ma Sha Allah." He pulled back. "But, you're missing something."
"What?"
He went to our walk-in wardrobe, and returned with a pair of my golden jhumka earrings. "I don't know why, but these really suit you."
