I was walking down the hall, minding my own business, when Rauf was thrown out of the study and onto the floor in front of me, causing me to jump, startled.

"Now that my sister has made a decision..." Faiz came out, breathing hard. "I can beat the s**t out of you."

"Faiz!" I put a hand over my mouth, staring at the sight in front of me, horrified.

Rauf spat out blood onto the carpet.

"Faiz, leave him." Jamshed Uncle also came out of the room. "You can go back, Rauf. You'll receive the divorce papers soon."

What in the world happened while I was making tea? How did things end up at divorce?

Rauf stood up, his legs shaking, grabbing onto the wall. "If wives can ask their husbands for money, why can't it be the other way around? Isn't the world about equality these days?"

"You weren't asking me for money!" Sumaira came out of the room now. "You were demanding it like it's your right, which is wrong regardless the gender. You were threatening me, intimidating me, forcing me to do as you wished, all because of my family wealth. I tried to maintain this relationship, regardless of your behaviour, but I've had enough!"

Rauf turned to look at me, and I decided that I should actually read shurakany kay nafl (prayer apart from the mandatory ones, to thank Allah for something) for being saved from marrying this jerk. Not that he could have demanded any money from my family, I laughed internally at the idea. He opened his mouth to say something to me.
