Prologue
Alina sat in the woods, staring at the corpse before her. She knew that she had killed him, she had been murdering innocent lives for years in the name of her own survival but today was different. She was feeling something that hadn't crossed her mind in years; guilt.
She didn't know what started it but she knew that she wanted to kill whoever or whatever has caused this sickening feeling in her gut. She was a natural born predator: a vampire. And yet, here she was wondering why this man was so different.
Was it because he had a family at home waiting for his arrival? Kids waiting for their dad to tuck them into bed tonight? A best friend waiting to watch the next NFL game with him tomorrow? Alina would never know but it had never bothered her before so she was stuck answering the question: Why now?
