Lan Zhan was clutching his brother's robes, fighting with himself to not break the door down and not go see his husband who was clearly distressed judging by the sounds that could still be heard from the Jingshi. He could also feel it; it was the first time that Wei Ying did not close their mental bond on him when he was suffering.

The Yunmeng Jiang disciple made it quite clear that he did not want the older boy to see him right now but he did not reject the support he was offered. Lan Zhan was doing his best to transfer all the calming and reassuring thoughts he could muster, later on, he also started humming for the younger boy. He did not know if he was helping at all but he at least hoped so.

At the first break of dawn, the three waiting outside heard a child's cries. It took everything he had for the Second Jade not to storm the Jingshi immediately. But when he received tired but happy Wei Ying's voice coming through their mental bond, he decided to try and be patient for just a while longer. "Lan Zhan, calm down, we are alright. Just a few more minutes and then we will be back together."

At last, when Wen Qing opened the door to invite them inside, he all but run to his beloved's side.

Wei Ying's mind was hazy and he was exhausted after long hours of giving birth. Wen Qing did what she could to help but it was still hard. She encouraged him ceaselessly, as did Lan Zhan through their mental bond. Although the younger boy did not want his husband to be present, he almost begged the Dafan Wen doctor to prevent the older boy from seeing him in this state just days before, he wanted his soulmate's support badly.

The quiet and calm humming helped him relax as much as he could under the circumstances. Wen Qing's voice was grounding him to reality and he was more or less able to follow her instructions.

He did not know for how long it went on until the Dafan Wen doctor finally breathed out and raised her bloodied hands. He strained his neck to be able to see, but she quickly turned away. He almost broke down crying when he could not see his baby. Lan Zhan noticed his rising panic and Wei Ying could feel how he tensed, ready to burst in and fly to his side.

Fortunately, it only lasted a second before he heard his child crying loudly. It immediately calmed him down, he knew the baby was alive. His eyes filled with tears, blurring his sight so much he barely saw Wen Qing moving around the room and then coming back to him with a white bundle of blankets in her arms. Wei Ying felt over the moon with happiness as he reassured his husband that everything was alright.

She smiled and whispered, her voice full of emotions: "It is a boy."

Then she gently lay the baby onto the bed, just beside its parent and went to clean everything up. Wei Ying did not pay any attention to her; his eyes glued on his and Lan Zhan's son who meant the world to him already. He wanted to hold his baby in his arms but when he tried to reach out, he found out he was too weak and tired to do so, his hand only touching the blankets; even if he managed to somehow pick his son up, he was afraid he would drop him. The cries were breaking his heart apart.

He whimpered quietly, his distress growing, just as Wen Qing came back. She helped him to a half-sitting position and put pillows below his back to steady him. The movement made pain flare up his body but he could not care less as the Dafan Wen doctor scoped up the child only to gently place it into his hands, securing his hold with a blanket she put over him. As soon as the baby was in his arms, it stopped crying immediately.

The child was so small and delicate; he could see that even when it was wrapped in its pristine white cocoon. It was looking smaller than Jin Ling had and Wei Ying wanted to ask whether his son was healthy. He did not have to, Wen Qing confirmed it just as he opened his mouth, her voice ever so calming: "He is healthy. It seems he had already taken a liking to you, look how content he seems when you are holding him. Do you want some time to yourselves first or should I call your husband over already?"

The Yunmeng Jiang sect disciple's eyes did not leave his son's face as he hoarsely whispered: "Thank you, Wen Qing." Then he added after a second's pause: "I would like to see Lan Zhan, please let him in."

A bright smile bloomed on his lips as he felt the door opening and his husband running to his side. He finally managed to unglue his eyes from their treasure and faced the older boy. Lan Zhan stopped abruptly a step away from the bed and looked at his soulmate with their child in his arms with absolute disbelief, frozen on the spot.

Wei Ying's smile became even bigger as he nodded for the Gusu Lan sect disciple to approach: "Come here, Lan Zhan. Come meet our A-Yuan."

It still took a few seconds for the Second Jade to process everything and be able to act, he was overwhelmed. Finally, a hiccupping whisper left his mouth: "Wei Ying..." He would never be able to find words to express how grateful he was at the moment to the whole world for allowing him to meet his husband and blessing them with such a beautiful child.

Tears came out of his eyes and he made that last step to the bed. Then he literally fell onto his knees, his hands gently touching his husband's as he planted a sweet kiss on his lips.

Although the Second Jade could not talk at the moment, Wei Ying could feel all the emotions which were overwhelming the other coming through their mental bond, doubling, no, tripling, his own. He thought his chest would burst from all the happiness; he knew he could never ask for anything more than what he already had. He leaned forward as much as he could and connected his forehead to his husband's, crying in unison over their son.
