THE PAST few weeks felt like a million centuries for Draco. Every second felt like a year.
He wanted to go out, talk to Y/N, or even just see her. But there was no way he could do that with the Dark Lord under their roof.
Since he came back from Hogwarts, Narcissa has been trying to talk him into feeling better, even if she herself was tied around the neck. There was no getting out of this besides death.
And in all honesty, Draco's considering it.
With all the gloom around the house, with all the planning of Voldemort. Draco never heard the end of it. And once he comes up to his room, there was nothing but silence. Lonely silence, deafening silence.
He just wanted to be with Y/N again. He wanted to be happy, to be free.
Draco knew that Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding is coming up. Merlin, the other death eaters are going to attack. He's not going, thankfully. Voldemort himself picked only the ones he wants to be there.
The blonde badly wanted to warn Y/N. To atleast tell her not to go- if ever she will. But Draco knew she most probably will. Even after everything the trio has done to her, her soft heart for them will always forgive them.
That was the one thing he didn't like about Y/N. She was too forgiving to the people close her- whatever you did, she will forgive you. As she said, she won't give up on something too fast, but when she does, it's game over.
A shiver ran down Draco's spine. What if she's given up on him? He felt his heart slightly crack at the thought. What if she finds someone else? What if she finds someone better than Draco? Someone who wouldn't put her life in danger? Someone who's not a coward. Someone worth it.
Draco's eyes began to water at his overthinking. There was no guarantee that these thoughts were true, but it just makes sense.
He tried to calm down. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He imagined Y/N giving him a hug from behind as she whispered comforting words to him. It seemed to work. His breathing once again became even, and his mind atleast a bit clear.
But when he opened his bloodshot eyes, the empty, silent room reminded him that she wasn't there. She wasn't there because he left her just like that. He didn't even try to fight for her, because he was scared for her life.
Most nights, he doubted his decisions. He always thought if he did the right thing. His heart told him that it was the best thing at the moment, but at the same time, his mind told him that he's a coward, and it won't be long until Y/N realizes that she deserves better.
Draco hates himself for agreeing with his brain. Y/N does deserve better.
Should he at least send her a letter? Explaining? Warning?
He decided that he must. But not through a letter. It was too risky.
But there was only one other alternative.
A Patronus.
Draco has never tried producing one, but it's not too late for him to do so. Besides, he's old enough to do magic outside of school, there was no possible way he could get in trouble for trying.
But in order to produce one, he needs something he never really had before: a happy memory.
Had.
When Y/N entered his life, all he could think of was happiness. She herself was his happiness- would the memory of her work?
There was only one way to find out.
Draco stood up from his bed, and raised his wand. He closed his eyes, and thought about her. Her mischievous smile, her beautiful eyes, her amazing personality.
Then, he thought about the things they did together. Those times they snuck out to go to Muggle London, and to Diagon Alley. Those times they spent while fixing the cabinet.
Especially that time he finally had the courage to kiss her.
At that thought, Draco smiled. He felt his heart warm up with such comfort and love. He took a deep breath, and finally muttered under his breath, "Expecto Patronum."
The tip of his wand started to light up, soft blue mist coming out of it. Slowly, he once again opened his eyes. His face lit up in awe as he stared at his forming Patronus.
It started to make sense. It was a small animal, a bit long, and furry- Draco's smile fell as soon as he realized what it was.
Ofcourse it had to be a bloody ferret. He thought.
Draco didn't want to waste more time. He thought about what to say so he could send a message- but nothing came into his mind. It was like now that he could finally communicate with Y/N, his mind went blank.
The hesitation he had- he was scared to hear from her. He's scared to hear how he broke her heart, how disappointed she is.
Just like that, his happiness disappeared. Along with his Patronus. The ferret slowly faded away, and Draco made no action to make it stay.
A sigh left his soft lips as he just stood up to let in some fresh air. He looked up at the sky, his lips slightly curling up at the sight of the stars. He loved looking at them- it always reminds him of those times he spent up in the Astronomy tower. With Y/N or not, he always thought that the stars were beautiful.
The moon was at its half circle, and the stars danced through the night, in their partner's arms.
People are so busy with saving the world, or ruining it, that they forget about the little things. It's like they don't appreciate small things anymore.
They should never take the small things for granted.
Because they know only until when they'll have what they have.
