THE FOREST was dark and cold, and Y/N had no idea what hid behind those trees, but she still decided to sit with Hermione outside by the fire they made in case something happened- not that she was that strong, but she's at least something.
Y/N and Hermione sat in front of the fire, just staring at it. The flames reminded Y/N of the Gryffindor common room- oh how she missed it. She would love to go back to Hogwarts and snuggle by their common room's fireplace.
But here she is. In the middle of the forest, her life basically in danger.
"I kind of feel bad for Ron," said Y/N, trying to make a conversation, "I know his radio is getting on Harry's nerves. I heard him shouting."
Hermione looked at her friend, "It was the locket. Makes him hot headed," she said, "I took it from him and told him we'll take turns. Trust me, it's hard to fight its dark magic."
"Are you feeling angry right now?" Y/N asked, knowing Hermione was wearing the locket.
The bushy haired girl shook her head, "No, no."
"Are you sure?" teased Y/N.
"Positive," Hermione reassured.
For a moment, the mischievous Gryffindor studied Hermione. She knew that the girl was just holding it in. Y/N shrugged, "You know, I think that Ronald is a fine looking man."
Hermione froze, "Do not start with me, Black," she said, her voice slightly shaking.
But instead of listening, Y/N decided to push her more, "No, really. Just look at his perfectly red hair, the constellation of freckles-"
When Hermione turned around to face Y/N, her eyes were burning with jealousy, and her breathing was hard, "If you like him so much, then he's yours!"
Y/N just stood there, and sighed. She gave Hermione a sad smile and said, "I unfortunately am in love with someone else, 'Mione. Sure, Ron's a good catch, but my heart's been caught by someone else," she shook her head and held a hand out, "Give me the locket, we're supposed to be taking turns, right?"
Hermione stared at Y/N for a straight ten seconds before letting out a sigh and reaching for her neck to get the locket. Handing the necklace to her friend she said, "I'm.. sorry about Draco."
"We tried," Y/N shortly said, clipping the locket behind her neck and stuffing inside the jumper she brought.
"Are you two really giving up?" asked Hermione.
Before she could answer, Y/N heard a twig snap. She shared a glance with Hermione, "Do your enchantments work?"
Hermione only said, "I hope so."
The two of them stood up, and walked towards where the sound came from. They tried to walk as quietly as possible, but the crunchy leaves beneath them made it hard to do so.
They stopped at the sound of another twig snapping. Their breaths hitched at the sight of death eaters, but they made no move to hide. All they did was hope that Hermione's enchantment worked. There were three of them, and the two of them were holding what seemed to be dead bodies.
Y/N put a hand on Hermione's arm. Just to reassure herself that she wasn't alone, and that they won't be seen because of Hermione's magic. They're safe, right?
The death eaters walked past them, but the last one suddenly stopped, "What's that?" he said as if he noticed something. Hermione let out a quiet gasp as the death eater stopped in front of them, "What's that smell?"
Y/N noticed that his voiced was a bit muffled. The enchantment worked, but it didn't mean that their scents were blocked as well.
He leaned forward, taking in the smell as he stared straight at both Hermione and Y/N. But he didn't know that, he just smelt something.
Suddenly, one of the death eaters dropped a body, "What are you doing?" he said, "It's heavy," he followed, gesturing towards the body.
Both girls sighed in relief as the death eater in front of them walked away, "Oh sorry, do you want me to carry it?"
"Yeah, thank you," the death eater said.
But the death eater who used to be in front of them said, "Don't be ridiculous, pick it up!"
They then, walked away from the four's camp sight, making Y/N and Hermione sigh more in relief, "Are you okay?" Y/N couldn't help but ask Hermione.
The bushy haired girl nodded with a heavy breath, "Yes," she said.
Suddenly, someone from behind them spoke up, "Snatchers," Harry had said.
Y/N jumped at his voice, "Godric's arse, Harry! You scared me to death!"
"Sorry," Harry apologized, then turned to Hermione, "Good to know your enchantments work."
Hermione turned her head towards the direction the death eaters went, "He could smell it," she said, "My perfume."
Harry let out a sigh, "We need to leave as soon as possible, things are getting worse in Hogwarts," he said, "Snape is Headmaster, I heard it on the radio."
"How are you sure that's true? You can't rely on the media," Y/N said.
"Well, I took a look at the Marauder's map to see if it was true. And it was," Harry said.
Y/N's eyebrows furrowed at his words, "You went through my stuff?!" she asked, clearly angry.
"That's not the most important matter at hand, Y/N-"
"That's not the point!" Y/N didn't let Harry finish, she was angry at Harry for going through her stuff.
Hermione got between them, "Please don't fight. It's not the time," she sighed, then held a hand out to Y/N, "Clearly you can't wear then for very long," she said.
The mischievous Gryffindor let out a shaky breath and removed the necklace, and as soon as she placed it in Hermione's hand, she immediately felt better, "Sorry," she said, "But that doesn't mean going through other people's stuff is acceptable, Harry."
Harry nodded, "Of course, I know that, I apologize."
Hermione nodded, then started walking back towards their tent, both Harry and Y/N following her not far behind, "I've told you, Ron isn't strong enough to apparate."
Walking beside her, Harry told her, "Then, we'll go on foot," he said, "And next time, Hermione, as much as I like your perfume, just don't wear any."
Y/N stopped at the sight of Ron staring at both Harry and Hermione. She saw the jealousy in his eyes.
She gave the redhead a small smile, which Ron ignored and just turned to go back inside. Y/N let out a sigh, knowing that tomorrow will be a long day for them, and the day after that.
All she wants to do is go home, and live at peace.
But there won't be peace unless Voldemort is gone. There won't be peace unless they do this.
The only way they could get peace is to risk their lives.
And that's exactly what they're doing.
Besides, what's life without a little risk?
