"So what's your plans after graduation, Naomi?" The college counselor asked. We sat in her office in between my third and fourth period classes. "I want to become a prenatal nurse and lean into pediatric medicine." I spoke with a smile.

She chuckled, "and where do you think you'll be studying this at?" My smile dropped at her question. "My top choice would be UPenn, however if I can't make it to Ivy, my safe choice is Penn State." I respond with a slight hint of hesitation in my voice.

"You're going to graduate early which is a good thing, however—I have some advice for you. Take this with a grain of salt, I mean this as a mentor— the ivy title looks good, but as a nurse you're known for your practice, not your schooling. I mean this in the nicest way possible; the loans for Penn State are a lot more affordable than loans from UPenn." She tries to let me down easily.

I nod as she smiles at me.

"You're graduating early, you could get into any school with these scores." She holds up my results. "You wouldn't have enough money to be able to supply a second year loan—even your first loan will be tricky, even if you had scholarships." I sighed and crossed my left leg over my right, sitting up straight in the green cushioned—wooden chair.

"So take these scores, which are so impressive for your age, and go be the best you can be at Penn State. You'll make the best nurse one day, you don't need an ivy league title behind you." She tried to convince me.
