Kozik walked in, carrying a pink teddy bear.

"I saw it when we stopped for gas," he said softly.

"She'll love it," I said.

"Hey Ava," he said. She watched him skeptically. She didn't know him.

"He's a friend of mine and Uncle Happy's," I said.

"And Daddy?" She asked.

"We're working on it," Kozik said. Ava relaxed a little as Kozik held the teddy bear out to her.

"For you," he said. She took it and looked at it carefully, as if to examine it.

"Manners Ava," I said.

"Thank you," she said.

"You're welcome," he said. "I have to head home but I was super worried about you so I wanted to stop and say hi."

She just nodded as she played with the teddy bear.

"Thank you Koz," I said. He hugged me and left.

A few minutes later, my brother walked in.

"Uncle Jax," Ava said loudly. Luckily Tig can sleep through a train crash.

"Hey kiddo," he said. "Looking tough."

She nodded excitedly. "And look, Mama's friend bought me this bear."

"That was nice of him," Jax said, looking at me. I mouthed Kozik's name and he nodded.

Jax sat with us for a while before Tara walked back into the room. Jax tensed and moved away from her.

"Just checking in," she said.

"We're good," I said.

"Mama, I'm hungry," Ava said.

"I can have a nurse bring some food in," Tara said. "She's on soft food because of the cut."

I nodded a little. "Thank you."

She walked back out.

"Piney and I are going to stay but we're gonna send everyone else home," Jax said. I nodded.

"Yeah," I said. "Sounds good. You can send someone else back."

He nodded and headed out. Piney had to have been waiting as he entered the door the second Jax stepped out.

"How's our princesses?" He asked.

"I'm great," I said. "Ava's been better."

"Piney," Ava said, excitedly showing him her new bear.

He chuckled a little.

"What did you do to Daddy?" Piney asked looking to Tig who was still sound asleep.

"I tried to get him to leave," I said.

"He loves you two too much," Piney said. I nodded and he talked to Ava a little bit before a nurse came in with her lunch.

"I'll send Juice in an hour with food for you and Tig," Piney said.

"Thank you," I said. "And coffee if you can."

He nodded and hugged me before leaving. I fed Ava her lunch as I talked to her.

"Mama, I'm sleepy," Ava said about twenty minutes after she'd ate.

"You can lay down," I said. She laid down on her bed next to Tig and snuggled up next to him. He blinked at the sudden presence next to him.

"Like mother like daughter," he said with a chuckle.

"I'm aware," I said, smiling at him as he sat up a little.

"Where'd the bear come from?" He asked softly as Ava was falling asleep.

"Kozik brought it," I said. "The guys have been in and out."

"That was nice of him," Tig said.

"Juice is coming in a bit with lunch and coffee," I said. He nodded.

The room remained silent until Juice brought us lunch. We talked to him a little before he left, hugging me in goodbye.

"Aye lass, brotha," Chibs said softly as he walked in.

"Hey," I said softly, my eyes barely leaving Ava.

"How's the girl?"

"Tired," I said.

He chuckled a little and she shifted in her sleep.

"She's gonna heal up alright though," he said.

"Yeah," I said. "Probably some scars, but with a role model like you, her confidence shouldn't falter."

I looked at him when he didn't answer and his eyes were watering.

"Why'd this happen to such an Angel?"

"We don't know Chibs," I said. I wrapped my arms around him in a hug. "But she's safe now. She's safe and with people who care about her."

"I love ya," he said.

"I love you too Chibs," I said. He nodded and wiped his eyes.

"If ya need anything," he said.

"You'll be the first call," I said. He chuckled and hugged me once more before leaving.

The rest of the day passed quickly and before long Tig was leaving me and Ava in the hospital so he could sleep in a real bed. He did not want me to be alone all night, but I promised that the Redbull my brother brought me would keep me alert.

"Keep this," he said, hugging me tightly and pressing a gun into my hands.

"Give me your sweatshirt," I said as I tucked it into the back of my waist and. He gave it to me and I slid it on, the baggy material concealing the weapon.

"I love you babydoll."

"I love you too." He kissed my lips and left.
