I was sitting in class, waiting for Lexi to show up so I could tease her a little bit more right before our presentation.

I had assumed she would have gotten here a little earlier, just to make sure everything would be okay.

The first bell rang and Lexi still wasn't there. I texted her, but had no answer.

I turned to Daphnee and Alex. "Did you guys know if Lexi was going to be late?" I asked them.

They were together last night. They would probably know what was up with her.

"Not that I know of," Alex answered.

Daphnee shrugged, clueless too, but her friends definitely looked a little confused.

Had I annoyed Lexi enough for her to decide to not show up for the presentation to truly sabotage me? I doubted she would have had the guts to do something like that. This presentation was for a grade after all.

Maybe Lexi was just running late...

Second bell rang. Still no Lexi.

I called her this time, hiding my phone under my desk, but no one picked up.

Had Lexi overslept because no one was there to wake her up?

It wouldn't surprise me, honestly.

Lexi was out of it most of the time.

But I was also a little worried. I was good at making worse case scenarios in my head, and thinking about Lexi alone in her house, potentially in distress, did not help in reassuring me that it wasn't that big of a deal that she hadn't showed up yet.

Her brother had kind of left her in my care.

I couldn't do nothing.

I went up to the teacher before she could start the class and told her Lexi had a mishap so she couldn't make it today.

Hopefully, the fact that I was a good student, and so was Lexi and her friends, helped and the teacher allowed us to do our presentation in the next class.

I was a mess throughout the whole class though.

It would be kinda rude to just up and leave, so I was waiting for the bell to ring.

Time had never gone so slowly.

The second the bell rang, I told Alex and Daphnee I was going to check on Lexi, and then ran to my car.

If she had really overslept, I would smother her for making me worry like this.

When I parked in her driveway, her car was still here. That was a good sign, right?

I was concerned though. Maybe the door would be locked and I wouldn't be able to get in. I'd text Tyler if it was. They were bound to have a key hidden somewhere. I'd only text him once I was sure I couldn't get in though. I didn't want to worry him needlessly.

I walked up to the door, and found it unlocked.

I worried for nothing.

Though, now I worried a bit more. Why was the door unlocked? Lexi was forgetful, maybe that was why.

"Lexi, I swear to god if you just decided to sleep in, I'm going to strangle you," I announced, the second I stepped in her house.

Her shoes were by the door, and no one seemed to be on the first floor.
