unfunctionalBy dinner she could barely control her shaking. Her mind and her heart kept telling her he was gone, even though she'd seen him twice more throughout the day.
Both times because he was concerned for her.
Her body and her mind were reacting just like she had when she left him. Like every footstep was taking her farther and farther away from him.
He was already waiting for her when she entered his room. The room was exactly how she ordered it. Candlelight and flowers. Soft music, and the ceiling was covered in stars.
Kell nearly took her breath away. He looked more handsome than a boy had a right to look. He wore a navy suit and a pink shirt and tie. Her eyes filled with tears. How dare they take another moment away from her?
He smoothed out his tie. "I was assured that this would be appropriate attire for tonight."
"You're beautiful. You always are." She could only manage a sad smile. "Much too beautiful for me."
"I assure you that is not true. I swear I've never seen such a beautiful sight standing before me in all my life."
The gown she'd chosen tonight was sparkling black and touched the floor. She knew her guy would appreciate her legs being covered. That was the only modesty she would allow him. The silk dress clung to her shape and left nothing to the imagination. Her arms were bare, and her cleavage was daring.
If she didn't feel like a weight was sitting on her chest, she would have had fun all night tempting him more than he could bare.
His eyes lingered over her mark.
It was hot to the touch but not so bad that it couldn't be touched. She wondered if his was.
Slowly, she walked to him. She'd never considered herself a seductive girl, but with Kellum it always seemed easy to be. Looking at him, she undid his tie and let it fall to the floor. After undoing a few of his buttons, she laid her hand against his mark. It was cool to the touch.
She kissed him tenderly.
His arms came up around her, but he didn't pull her closer. His heartbeat didn't pick up tempo like it usually did.
When she nipped at his lips, his cheeks didn't tinge the color of his shirt.
Everything felt wrong, but she couldn't let him see that.
Jess cupped his cheeks and kissed him with all the feelings she had, knowing that he should be able to feel her love and her pain.
His lips swollen, he looked down at her with hooded eyes. He wanted her, but he didn't need her.
"I found the best chefs to prepare dinner for us. I asked them to fix a little of everything since I know how picky you are."
"The only thing I care about is the company."
"Me too. I love you, Kellum. I always will. No more running away."
"I love you too."
She turned away from him and pointed to his chair. "Have a seat, my King. Dezrick, have the food sent in. Was the champagne put on ice?"
