Mikasa POV

At first there had been the laughter of the children; their smiles warm and their hands firm on her arms as they danced around her.

But all the joy, the giggling and playing stopped, when the gleaming blade of the first sword took the grin of one of the girls near her.

The time seemed to stop when her small hand fell from Mikasa's arm.

When her eyes began to water and the smile disappeared from her face only to get replaced by a stare filled with fear.

She made a gurgling sound and Mikasa caught her, ignoring the pained shrieks of the other children, who watched their friend bleed out from the wound in her chest. A wound caused by the man standing behind the child in Mikasa's arms, staring at them with disgust and triumph in his soulless eyes.

"Kill them.", the king of Eldia said. "Kill all of them."

The soldiers came through the entrance of the cave and Mikasa let go of the girl's body with the scream of a warrior, her hands on the knives hidden beneath her thin clothes.

Only a tiny movement of her wrist and the first man went down. The king backed away from her as all the rebels tried to run, to flee. Some gathered the few weapons they had and joined Mikasa in her fight.

Mikasa whirled around to the other children, who hid behind her in fear, blood of their fallen sister and the soldier on their skin.

"Run!", she barked at them and came onto the next soldier with so much hate in her heart that she didn't give him a chance to see his end coming. The man held on to his throat as he drowned in his own blood.

Chaos erupted in the cave.

There were far more soldiers than rebels and Mikasa searched for her friends, her heartrate panicked and fear cold in her stomach.

"Never take your eyes off the enemy, beauty.", one of the soldiers shouted and made to attack her with the tiny sword in his hands. She was faster. A second later his head was on the ground while his useless body fell down next to it.

She moved fast, not allowing anyone else to surprise her from behind.

The screams and pained noises got louder by the second. The sound of blades crashing against each other were music in her ears. She gripped her knives harder and threw her body around, killing everyone in her reach with a single blow.

Blood coated her clothes.

And still she only saw the girl, lying on the ground.

It gave her just another reason to tear the skin of another soldier apart. Never would she acknowledge the tears in her eyes.

Eren POV

King Grisha.

Eren had recognized him as soon as the first soldiers had started to attack; to kill. He had long lost sight of Jean or Kou. The only one still by his side was Armin, whose wide-eyed stare was what kept him going.

He spun around, knocking the soldier in front of him out. The sound of the man's sword touching the ground was unheard in the tumult around them.

Eren grabbed the weapon and met the sword of yet another soldier who had crept up at him, his armor not protection enough to keep him safe from the prince's wrath. Eren heaved in a heavy breath as he took in the corpses on the ground.

The soldiers kept coming and coming and there was no way to tell how many of them Grisha had brought here.

"We have to get out of here!", Eren snarled and turned around to face Armin, who was as still as the corpses. All the color had left his face but Eren didn't have the time to worry about his friend.
