As time passed the days seemed to grow longer and more pointless. Since I was rejected I felt I'd grown up. I looked around and couldn't tolerate being invisible anymore. At school no matter how good my grades and or how much I tried to prove myself nothing changed for the better. And while in my mind I felt more in control, my body had other plans and it ramped up my 15-year-old boy hormones. My sniffing around the girls at school came to nothing except frustration. Getting the boys' attention was easier. There was no subtly needed. But a quick fumble in the boy's toilets with someone terrified of being caught with me wasn't satisfying. It seemed like there was no getting away from being the freak and no one had enough interest in me or the guts to get close. At home my parents were as apathetic as always, showering their love on my siblings. I wished they would all disappear. Better still I wished I could disappear and leave this shitty life behind.

One afternoon as I was leaving school, hope for a better future came from an unexpected source. I recognised The Pure PA standing beside his flashy car. As I came closer he turned to look at me. I bowed and moved on. When he blocked my path I was surprised, my hackles went up instantly. Even standing as tall and straight as I could he still looked down on me, the pure blood strong in him.

"I have been sent by Damien Costas and have something that requires your attention. Come with me now please." He said in a "that's not a request" tone of voice as he stared me down. I was furious but what could I do, I'm pretty sure if I said no I would be dragged off anyway.

I sat in the car wondering what this was all about. It had been months since my rejection.

The car drove into the underground parking area of an apartment bloke close to the river. "Come with me please." The PA walked off towards the elevators without looking behind. He assumed I would follow like a good little pet. We went up to the top floor and down a short corridor to one of the apartments. He opened the door and asked me to go in and wait. He stayed outside. I was starting to get frightened at this point. It was a small studio space with a balcony and a beautiful view of the river and the city beyond. It was sparsely furnished but cozy.

The door behind me opened again and I turned expecting to see the PA but instead, it was Damien. His presence instantly filled the room and I was crowded out. I jumped back and I kicked myself for acting like such a wimp. Looking at him made my chest tighten. Not enough time had passed to forget how I had felt about him. They weren't real feelings but I couldn't stop them affecting me.

He moved towards me, I could hear my wolf growling and tense ready to leap.

"I have something for you." Damien had a large, long envelope in his hand and he offered it to me.

"Your birthday is in a few of weeks so think of this as an early birthday present." He shook the envelope under my nose and continued to hold it out for me to take. I had totally forgotten I'd be turning 16 soon, big whoop!! I couldn't remember the last birthday when I had anything to celebrate.

" I don't want anything from you." I looked up at him, in my mind I tried to grow a few more inches and look tough. I must have failed miserably because he smiled and moved closer. We shouldn't be this close and I turned away but was caught up by a large hand on my arm. Damien pulled me back and up against his chest. My teenage hormones flared up like a bonfire. Even worse his infernal scent suddenly filled the room. It was like being handed your drug of choice when you've worked hard to stay clean.

"You don't have to be so stubborn. I'm trying to help you." He growled. I couldn't stop looking at his mouth. "Take it." He pressed the envelope into my hand and moved to the other side of the room. Which was a good idea. We both needed space between us. I was trembling. When I put the envelope on the table unopened Damien went from annoyed to angry.

"There are two important documents in there...they'll give you what you want the most." He pointed at the envelope.

"Most of the money will be kept in Trust until you turn 18. The rest will help you until then." His anger faded quickly. "The other document is the Deed to this apartment. It's yours." As far as I was concerned he was talking gibberish. Then he was opening the door to leave.

"How would you know what I want?" I barked at him. It was happening again. I was being manipulated, told what to do and how to be. I had had enough of it. I picked up the envelope and rushed towards him, slapping it hard against his chest.

"You don't control me anymore. You don't know what I want." Damien's face went red, his fangs dropped and suddenly I was trapped in his arms and being crushed. My wolf was growling loudly to be released. My head fell back when my spine felt like it would splinter. I'd been mistaken, ridiculously foolish in thinking I could stand up to an Alpha. Had my ego become so large? Was I so wrapped up in myself I had forgotten my place in the scheme of things? He could snap me in two if he wished. As the second in line in our pack, he could kill me on the spot without any repercussions in the human world or ours.

Damien glared at me, growling deep in his throat, and then he dipped his head, fangs extended, and slashed my cheek. There was a sharp burning pain, and I felt blood flowing down my cheek. He bent his head again and slowly licked the wound. The blood trickled down to my chin. I couldn't help myself, I moaned. My stupid, stupid body responded to him. Damien stopped and stared into my eyes. He saw something, and then he abruptly let me go. I fell to the floor breathless and limp.

He moved to the door again "I know what you want most..." His lips were red from my blood. I thought he was going to say something cliche like "HIM" but instead he said. "You want to be FREE...You want to be rid of all of us." Damien pointed out the window where most of the Lycan community lived and then to himself.

......

Damien PoV

I was a split second away from marking Virgil. What was I thinking? He'd accidentally offered his neck....argghh!!! His blood is still fresh on my tongue. It's all I can smell. He tasted so good."
