Chapter 28 | bestowed

You and L stood at the end of Styx, ready to step though the light back up to the surface. But there was something you had to do first.

"Ok, so your boon will make us able to stay on the surface for double the time. 24 hours?" You asked.

"Correct, you may be a bit tired toward the end but you'll be able to stay up there longer. Ready?" Zagreus replied.

You and L nodded, and he grabbed your hand for reassurance. Zagreus held his hand out to the both of you and from his palm, a soft glow came.

"In the name of I, Zagreus, (y/n) (l/n) and L Lawliet shall revive my blessing!" Zagreus announced, the glow passing from him to the both of you.

It felt like a static electric shock through your bodies, and when it was over and you were equiped with the boon you noticed something interesting. Your feet, they glowed. Resembling Zagreus' flaming feet the glow under your skin showed the effect of the active boon.

"There, 24 hours of surface time is now yours" Zagreus said.

"Thank you. Now... uh how will Tisiphone do this..?" You asked.

Tisiphone stood beside Zagreus, prepared to give L her boon. Although Tisiphone was at a disadvantage when it came to granting boons. Since she could only say the word 'murderer' she couldn't say the spell.

"As long as she can manage to say the name of the person she's giving a boon it will work. So, Tisiphone, can you say Lawliet?" Zagreus asked.

Tisiphone's boon will allow L to track Light wherever he goes as Light was his murderer. Tisiphone being the fury of avenging murder meant that she had a real bone to pick with killers and she'd been eager to give L this boon from the start so Light could get his comeuppance.

"Mm...mmmurderr..." Tisiphone murmured.

"Uh- not quite. Start with the first part Law" Zagreus replied.

L wondered what exactly caused these speech patterns in some of the underworld residents. Tisiphone could only say Muderer and Charon was dead silent, never speaking. Was it a curse? Or some kind of magic? Or were they just made that way.

"Mmmuu- L...Laaderer-" Tisiphone attempted.

"You can say your sisters names right?" Zagreus asked.

"Megera. Alecto" she nodded.

"Do the same thing but with L, sound it out like that"

She seemed a little frustrated, L felt kind of bad.

"Laaww- mmmuder... lawli-"

"That's it, almost there" you assured.

"L- laaaawww...liiieee- T"

The sound of his name, though a bit strained made L perk up.

"That's it! Just a bit more... smooth" he assured.

"Laawlieet" she said.

"Yes that it! Now you can give him the boon" Zagreus replied.

Seeming very proud of herself for picking up a new word quickly, Tisiphone smiled when she held her hand up to L to give him the boon. L braced for impact of the second shock.

"Mmuu... Lawliet!" She announced, the same glow and shock washing over L.

Once the boon was granted to him, he found his fingers almost like an x-ray as he could see his bones through his skin. A sign the boon was active within him.

"Perfect! Thank you Tisiphone" L said.

"Lawliet" she replied, nodding her head as a you're welcome.
