Sometimes watching the taskforce was so boring, they were always wrapped up in work and you couldn't do much to interfere without exposing yourselves. Matsuda and Aizawa seemed aware of your presence, probably from the coldness in the air around you. They were yet to address you though as all the other taskforce members were in the room with them.

So you and L sat on the couch nearby waiting for them to break up their little meeting so you could give Matsuda and Aizawa a poke to see how things were going. You'd given them their instructions, now they just had to carry them out. L had his head in your lap, as you fiddled with his soft hair.

"But I kea seriously, how creepy is that? Of course I was going to be a bit freaked out walking on on my own successor dying his hair to look like me" L rambled.

"That's weird. No wonder he ended up a serial killer that man was just... unhinged. Guess what's what happens when you name your child beyond birthday, what kind of name-" you replied.

"He never used to be so unhinged, but the older he got the more he did. I guess whatever he was going through he hid really well so it was left untreated or something. Also yeah Beyond is a strange name, although I can't be talking my name is L"

"L's a nice name though, especially Lawliet. Lawliet is a name worthy of a god"

He gave you a playful smile and gently whacked you for that cheesy compliment.

"You flatter me" he joked.

"That's my job" you replied.

"Anyways so when he esca-AH!"

Mid story he jumped, sitting up and scrambling into your lap.

"What? You good?" You asked.

"Something touched my foot. It was cold and... I dunno rough?" He cowered.

How could something have touched him? You're both shades only things you can touch on the surface are things you interact with first. You gently pulled the throw pillow back as to not catch the attention of the taskforce who'd freak out seeing a pillow moving on it's own. And underneath it, you found the culprit and you almost screamed to.

"What the fu- oh! Wait... he has a scroll" you said.

"That's a snake! A whole snake how are you so calm? What if it's venomous?" L rambled, clinging to you tightly.

"Are you scared of snakes?"

"YES IM SCARED OF SNAKES THEY'RE DANGEROUS!"

You gave him a raised eyebrow, finding this rather amusing.

"L you literally taunted serial killers for a living and you're scared of snakes. Not all snakes are dangerous you know?" You said.

He didn't seem swayed by your observations, still curled up against you away from the snake. Seems like you've discovered one of his hidden fears.

"But they're so... slithery and... they can squeeze you and bite you and-" He stammered.

"I can squeeze you and bite you" you pointed out.

"But you're not a constrictor doing it to kill me you're just doing it to tease me"

You sighed, playfully rolling your eyes and holding out an arm for the snake. As long as you kept it hidden behind the back of the sofa the taskforce wouldn't see.

"What are you doing? Don't touch it!" L said.

"Relax! You see the scroll? It's a messenger. Probably from Dionysus. That's why he can touch us even though we're shades" you replied.

The snake coiled around your arm and you bought it closer to L who just cowered away from it even more.

"Oh you baby. He's a nice snake! If he were like a dugite or something I'd not blame you for being scared but look, he's just a little field snake. Harmless, and he's a messenger of the gods so he's friendly" you assured.

L still wasn't too sure about the snake, but eased up a little the more he looked at it and realised it was just chilling on your arm rather than trying to kill you. Plus, he had a letter for you gripped in his tail which made him seem a lot more human than most animals. He careful reached out and took the small scroll, unrolling it to read it.

L, (y/n).

Just a quick warning for you, Aphrodite and Apollo have noticed the drop in deaths and wish to investigate what's going on in the underworld. They both show remorse for the incident and don't stand by it but I don't blame you or the underworld for not wanting anything to do with us. If the underworld wish to talk to them, I'd say just let hades do his thing. If not then tread super carefully while you're on the surface so no gods notice you messing around down there. If you need my boon again just call upon me.

-Dionysus.

P. S. Hope olive didn't scare you, he has a habit of teasing people.

L looked up from the letter and glared at the snake.

"You did that on purpose?" He questioned.

The snake just stuck his tongue out as snakes do, and looked up at L.

"How dare you- (y/n) stop laughing"

You couldn't help but snicker at the situation, L's fright amusing when olive the snake was so small and harmless.

"I'm sorry but... honey you're the worlds greatest detective. Olive is tiny" you giggled.

"Shut uupppp... he scared me"

"Oh you poor boy"

You just gave him a hug and he decided to let your laughter at him slide. L was too soft for your hugs. A whole life of being touch starved made him crave your affection in death.

"About the letter though, nice of him to give us a heads up" you said.

"We should take his warning and be careful. If we tell hades about this he'll know we've contacted Olympians when we aren't supposed to... I guess if Aphrodite and Apollo show up at Styx we should just let the gods do their thing" L replied.

"You're right, best leave the god drama to the gods. Apart from giving Hypnos a heads up so he doesn't panic we should just stay silent and be careful up here so no one knows we're on the surface"

You looked over at the taskforce, who were still distracted with work and sneakily reached over to the nearest desk for a pen to write a quick thank you to the letter to send back. L looked over your shoulder as you wrote seeing you add his freak out in the p.s.

"Hey! Don't expose me in front of a god" he joked, gently shoving you.

"I'll do what I want thank you. Plus, Dionysus will think it's funny" you replied, giving him a gentle shove back.

You rolled up the paper and gave it back to the snake who was ready to head back to Olympus and send your note.

"Thank you olive, we might see you again some day with another message" you said.

"Don't scare me next time" L added.

The snake slithered off your arm and the sofa, across the floor unnoticed to head back to his home with the gods. Once he was gone, L loosened up and stopped giving you a death grip. You couldn't help but giggle at him.

"Stoooop! You're so mean" he joked.

"You know I love you L, but man you jumped out of your skin that was hilarious" you replied.

"I had no way of knowing if it was dangerous or not! How am I meant to know gods have messenger animals I've only been dead like... 6 months? Wow I've been dead a while. Bet my body is half decomposed by now..."

"Even if your human body is turning to bone your shade body is just a beautiful as the day you died. And your fears are still 100% in tact"

"Ugh you're never going to let me live this down" he sighed.

You just gave him a smile and kiss on the cheek, reassuring you loved him.

"Nope"
