Chapter 37 | fallout

A/n: in most of my other books the smut chapter falls on 37. I never planned for that to happen it just kinda did. But unfortunately this book is going to break that cycle bc I need to make some plot points first. But don't worry, a chapter or two and you'll get your sour lemons guys ;)

Watching the final spats of the argument between the two, you and the small crowd of other worldly beings watching in secret flinched at the sound of Aizawa slamming the door on this way out.

Well... that's got a little more heated than expected.

"Damn" Hermes mumbled.

"Yep, that's my boon for you" Megera replied.

Light stood angry and breathless from screaming that he wasn't Kira before turning to the rest of the taskforce.

"This is ridiculous, when you want to have a taskforce that actually looks for the right person, give me a call" He spat, leaving out the other door.

Now it was just Mogi, Matsuda and Cheif Yagami sitting in the room wondering what just happened and not knowing who to side with. On one hand, Aizawa had some solid evidence at at the very least Light knew more than he was leading in. But still, they didn't want someone they'd knows since he was a child to end up a serial killer.

"I uh... really don't want to say this but... that video does look really incriminating" Matsuda spoke up.

"Yes Matsuda, use your brain for once" L mumbled, invested in the unfolding scene before him.

It was silent for a moment, and for a sense of reassurance on what they'd watched, the Cheif got up and replayed the video. He'd never been so disappointed in his son before, acting so embarrassingly and showing up to work clearly drunk in the middle of the day. Then having a massive, insult throwing argument with a co-worker AND as much as he didn't want to admit it... potentially being Kira.

He sighed, hanging his head and re-evaluating his life choices up until this moment.

"Ok as much as I hate light... I do kind of feel bad for his parents and sister... they didn't do anything wrong and they're going to have to suffer from his actions" you said.

"I understand why they'd be reluctant to accept he's Kira. But after a point, you have to think with logic and not emotions..." L replied.

While you, L and Ryuk stood in the room with the taskforce invisible to them. Megera and Hermes peeked from around the corner of the doorframe out of sight as to not be spotted. Being Devine creatures they could be seen by the naked eye, but not by a false one like cameras. So even though they did have to worry about showing up on the security footage they did have to worry about being spotted by the taskforce as they spied on them with you.

You initially just thought they'd drop in, help you out then leave. But this shit show was too interesting even to them to not stick around and watch. 

"How the hell am I going to tell his mother about this..?" Cheif Yagami explained.

"You... believe Aizawa?" Mogi asked.

"I don't want to but this footage... it clearly shows he knows more than he's leading on. I don't want to believe he's Kira, but I can believe me might be involved somehow"

Well... it was a start. He'd get there eventually, but you understood why he didn't want to fully accept it yet.

"What do we do?" Matsuda asked.

"When they calm down, I'd say we keep light under the impression that we're on his side... but we look into things a little more behind his back. I feel bad having to do that to my own son but..." Chief Yagami said.

"How exactly are we going to do all this without him figuring it out? He is smart enough to be one of the two best students in To-oh..." Mogi asked.

"We need to find out what he's doing when he's not at taskforce, at first I thought him arriving late was just him out with friends or staying late in class but now... god I hate this, I don't want to be suspicious of my own son but... Damnit, L was onto something. He's right, he's always right..."

"Damn right I am, you should have listened" L sighed.

Part of him could sympathise with the situation, the rest of him was very annoyed at the taskforce for not believing him in the first place and letting him die in the process. At least he got to meet you after he died.

"Well even if they're not fully on board with him BEING Kira yet, they do seem pretty convinced he's somehow involved. If we just let them investigate they'll find out very quickly they can't deny Light being Kira much longer" you said.

"What's your next move now they seem almost convinced shades?" Hermes whispered to you.

"Honestly, now we just wait. Watch and wait. Once they're fully convinced he's Kira and start to turn on him that's when we jump in and conveniently place evidence right under their noses"

"If we push it too hard now they'll just get suspicious that someone is trying to frame light since they still have that connection to him. They need to figure it out on their own, from here they'll first realise Lights Kira, then Misa the second Kira. Then we can step in again" L explained.

Ryuk couldn't help back laugh at how things were slowly falling apart for Light and he didn't even know it yet. The fact you and L had been haunting him for months now and he still had no idea was absolutely hilarious to Ryuk.

"Man I can't wait until he find out you two were behind all this. He's going to go apeshit" Ryuk laughed.

"He'll only he finding that out once he's dragged from Styx into Tartarus. I'm sure hades is preparing the worlds worst punishment for him" L replied.

"I can't wait to see what Hades does to him" you agreed.

What could be so bad that Kira himself gets doomed to? You didn't know yet but your curiosity was peaked. Hades was known for being sweet to his wife but ruthless to his punished souls. And Light? He'd be the most tortured soul in the underworld for his crimes. All while L gets to live in the lap of luxury up in Elysium, with a nice bed to sleep in and a beautiful view of the river Lethe.

How ironic that L was getting everything Light ever wanted? Friendships with gods, boons from the divine and an afterlife of relaxation once the case was over.

At least L could say that even though he died first, he'd living a better death than Light ever will.
