Hypnos hadn't lied when he said Morpheus would have L's eyes.

The swaddled baby godling looked up at you, his eyes striking to L's. Eyebags, dark glowing irises and hooded lids. To earn the respect of a god was a big deal, to have one use your features as inspiration for their child was unheard of. Until now of course.

Morpheus, only a day old looked just like a member of Hypnos' family. He had two little wings on either side of his head, as his father had when he was a godling. His cheeks were spotted with stars like his grandmother Nyx and his hair an ashy grey like his uncle Thanatos. Morpheus was the perfect mix of everyone in Hypnos' family. With the added detail of eyes like L's.

"That's almost spooky how similar his eyes look" you commented.

"I know, it's like looking at a mirror. A baby mirror" L added.

Hypnos cradled the child, very tired from using such strong magic all night to make him.

"I'm not sure what powers he'll have yet. Aside from the control over dreams I gave him. Mother always talked about how hard Thanatos was to control as a child, since he was teleporting all over the place. I expect him to be a handful as a child, me and my brothers were" Hypnos explained.

"I'm guessing Nyx has already gone mama bear over him... well, grandmother bear" you said.

"Oh yeah, she saw him and immediately asked to cuddle him. If anyone were to try and hurt him they'd have to go through me AND my mother"

L was just amazed how how all just magic worked. The fact Hypnos was so powerful he could create a child from emotions alone, it was amazing yet hard to wrap your head around as a mere shade. And how accurate Morpheus' eyes were to his was astounding. Hypnos did an amazing job with the little bit of spirit he took.

"If he's related to you, and the god of dreams I bet he'll be an easy child to put to bed" L commented.

"Definitely. He's got my affinity for sleep, he'll be napping most of his childhood like I did" Hypnos replied.

The godling already had his own little eye mask his father had crafted, and a stuffed animal of a sheep. Truly the offspring of sleep.

"Thank you again for letting me use your spirit L, I appreciate it" Hypnos said.

"No thank you for such an honour. I mean... part of me is in a GOD now. That's wild to think about" L replied.

"You're one of my first proper friends, of course I'd honour like like that"

"And you're one of my first proper friends too, if I ever have a kid I'll return the favour somehow"

You snickered, knowing full well a child wasn't that easy for a shade.

"No living thing can be born in the underworld unless you're a god remember? If you ever want kids I'm afraid we're out of luck" you reminded.

"If the day ever comes you decide to be parents, I'll gladly create you a child to raise. All I'd need as a bit of each of your spirits. Although they wouldn't come out a shade, more like... a demi god type creature" Hypnos offered.

You expected he'd offer such a thing, he'd been your beloved third wheel for ages now.

"I appreciate that, although I'm not parenting anyone just yet I'm still a young shade" you said.

"Same, I only died recently. I think I need to just... chill for a while" L added.

His time in the underworld was nothing but dealing with a case up on the surface so far. Months and months all L had been doing is waking up, meeting up with you, going to the surface, coming back and reporting to hades. Over and over again. He needed a break, and his chaos boon told him he'd be getting that break soon. He could feel it.
