When L finally managed to open his eyes, had to wait a moment for his vision to adjust to whatever he was seeing. He felt weightless, like he was floating. But there was a weight in his arms, a warmth.

When his vision cleared he saw what it was, it was you.

"(Y/n)? (Y/N)!" He exclaimed, shaking you to your senses.

You stirred, waking up and finding yourself just as confused as him. The two of you didn't let go of each other, staying tightly cuddled up.

"Honey... where are we? He asked.

"I don't know..." you replied.

The world around you seemed like... stars? Or static... maybe liquid? You couldn't really tell. But it was dark and everything had a purple-blue tinge to it. There was no ground, or ceiling or walls. You just floated in space, the fabric around your bodies and your hair floating as well. Although something about it looked familiar...

Then it hit him, this was exactly what he saw when you showed him that broken corner of the underworld. Primordial chaos.

"Are we... are we in chaos?" He asked.

You were stunned to silence, realising he was right. What did chaos want with you? Two shades, of all things. We're they mad you broke rules and went to the surface after death?

"That you are children..."

The voice that spoke to you and made you jump seemed to come from every direction. The voice spoke in multiple voices too, one deep, one light, one somewhere in the middle. You and L watched in awe when a single light appeared before you and slowly began to form into the shape of a humanoid creature. Chaos was presenting themselves to you.

If they didn't take a form you could visualise and understand, you'd probably go mad seeing their truest form. The light shaped like a person began to die down and revealed a much,  much taller than you, several winged being. Three eyes. One on the forehead and two in the usual place. They didn't wear anything, but they were neither a man or woman and didn't have anything to censor. Their skin, if you could call it that was made up of stars and emitted a soft glow.

The two of you just floated there, stunned.

"L Lawliet, (y/n) (l/n)... I've bought you here for a very specific purpose. One crafted by the fates themselves" they spoke.

The fates. Of course the fates had something to do with it. That always did.

"Your death, L Lawliet. It was the first event in a series of events that would cause a butterfly effect. One that both stops Kira and mends a long broken relationship. Your death and subsequent meeting of (y/n) (l/n), was the catalyst in fixing two realms dispute and repairing a broken system. The fates used your death to turn the Kira tragedy into a divine intervention" chaos spoke.

You could hardly believe your own ears. So Kira was just... chance? The fates weren't behind that? They saw it as an opportunity to fix the dispute between the underworld and Olympus, and fix the broken system in the shinigami realm. All it took to fix a centuries old divine problem... was L dying.

"Hang on... the fates used me to fix the divine?" L asked.

"Correct. As we speak the gods you were just standing before are putting aside their differences to bring you both back safely. The beginning of the road to reuniting"

L never really felt he was an important person, but this... this proved that he was. Of course he could hardly believe it, but it made him feel like he had some kind of purpose after all.

"And you, (y/n) (l/n). You weren't chosen by name to meet L. The fates simply said 'L will meet the one right for him' and you happened to be that person. They didn't force you together, you found each other with a little help. You were always meant to be. Without your help, none of this would have happened" chaos added.
