They all arrived back to the camp with a relief yet sadness after winning and losing Steve. After hearing the devastating news, Howard quickly went to the camp to know everything that happened
As he was pushing the soldiers aside that came back from winning the war, he thought about nothing but Evy. Steve and him were good friends and he felt so emotional after hearing what happened to him but he knows that no one out there is suffering as much as Evy
He stood in the front with his eyes roaming around trying to find her. "Jesus" he mumbled finally seeing her. She was stood next to Peggy who's rubbing her back while Evy only stare into a distance while her tears kept running down her cheeks
Howard didn't hesitate to run towards her to comfort her. "Evy" he called making her look at him
After staring into each other for seconds, Howard started walking closer to her while she stood still on her spot. He have his arms open inviting her for a hug
Evy hesitated for a second and was about to say she wants to be alone but after seeing the sincerity on his features, she moved from her spot and walked towards him
Howard gently pulled her by her arms and engulfed her into a hug that she didn't know she needed. Evy let's herself breakdown and cry into his arms
"Jesus Christ" he mumbled shaking his head "I'm so sorry sweetheart" he added kissing the side of her head while he placed a hand behind her head pulling it down to lay on his chest
Hearing and seeing Evy in that state broke his heart that he didn't realize he was also tearing up feeling pity and sadness towards the poor woman
Evy's arms around him tightened letting him know that she doesn't want him to go away "it's okay, I'm right here" he comfortingly said
She don't know what but something about Howard that day made her feel safe just by being in his arms. She was really thankful for it

Evy was packing her stuff from her desk when Colonel stood beside her placing down two files on her desk. After he pats her shoulder, he left making her look down on the files
Inactive was written outside of both files making her sigh knowing exactly who the files belong to. She opened each one of them seeing Bucky and Steve's photo on there
"hey" Peggy softly called from behind "let's go?" she asked earning a nod from Evy
Evy and Peggy took one last look to the camp before deciding to make their way towards the streets
"wow" Peggy smiled looking at the group of uncountable people celebrating across the street with huge smile on their faces while they wave the flags on their hands.
Evy smiled sadly seeing the pure happiness on everyone's faces knowing that their country is finally free from war. Winning the war left a bittersweet feeling towards Evy all because they won but it cost a lot of soldiers life including Bucky and Steve's
"how are you" Peggy spoke while Evy's gaze was still on the people from across the street. One of her biggest fears was being alone again and she hates how she's overthinking that she might lose the only person that she has right now and that's Peggy
"Evy" Peggy called for the hundredth times and finally snapping her out of her thoughts. "Yeah?" she asked looking at Peggy. Peggy let's out a sigh wrapping her arm around her shoulder "he loves you, they both do"
Evy nodded holding back her tears while they both stare at the people from across the street "he also told me to tell you that..." Peggy took a deep breath looking at the woman beside her who's trying not to break down right there
"everything's gonna be alright" she added while Evy placed her head down to Peggy's shoulder while she cries "there's another thing that he said but didn't got to finish it" Peggy spoke again
"he said he don't know how but he promised that he will. He didn't got to finish his words but I'm gonna bet you everything that I have that he promised to come back" Peggy smiled looking at evy who's looking at her with sadness "he'll come back home Evy, I have no idea how but we never know. Maybe in another lifetime he actually did"
