"And why are you telling us this now" Dooley asked looking unconvinced by every words that Peggy says "because I need your trust if you're going to believe me about Doctor Ivchenko"
"the evil enemy scientist" Dooley responds "yeah, he's a real killer. You can tell by the way he rubs his nose" Daniel spoke shifting uncomfortably in his sit. Evy glanced at Jack but he was already looking at her the moment that Ivchenko was mentioned
"I know what I saw. He was communicating in Morse code with someone across the street. The southeast corner of the building. at least 10 stories or higher" Jack glanced at the building across from them through the window
Evy was quiet the whole time as she quietly observes everyone mostly Peggy, she knew something was suspicious with Ivchenko and she wouldn't be shocked if Peggy was telling the truth
"I saw it too" Jarvis spoke "well as long as you saw it too" Jack turned to him "he was discussing some kind of timetable. We have less than 90 minutes before something's going to happen" Peggy continued trying to convince them
"can I check the building" Evy asked but stood up before anyone could even respond to her "no one is leaving this room until I'm convinced or Howard Stark shows up" Dooley glared at her. Evy rolled her eyes and sat back down on her sit
"we can't leave him on his own" Peggy raised her voice "he's a good man. He's done nothing but help us" Dooley looked back at Peggy "he's only been here for 48 hours, we don't know him"
"maybe not but we know you" Daniel cuts off, Peggy silently turned to him not expecting him to say that "I'm supposed to believe that you pulled off your own investigation without any of us noticing?" Dooley spoke again
"Why would you go through all that trouble instead of coming to one of us?" Daniel tuned to Peggy confused "I conducted my own investigation because no one listens to me. I got away with it because no one looks at me, because unless I have your reports, your coffee, or your lunch, I'm invisible"
"Forgive me for not getting all pissy-eyed at your tale of woe, but your track record with the truth hasn't been all that hot. So if all I've got to go on is your word..." Dooley raised his voice but Peggy cuts him off "there is one more thing" she said with teary eyes before turning to look at Evy
Evy looked at her with raised eyebrows waiting for her to continue. Peggy stood up and pulled out something in her bag and they all stood up as well to see what it was
she carefully handed it to Dooley and placed it on his palm. It was a small rounded device that has a button in the middle of it with a green light. Dooley pushed the button making the light go red and it opened before smokes came out from it "You'll want to be careful with that" Peggy spoke
"does this stuff implode, explode, spice up an old fashioned?" he asked pulling the vial while they all look at it confused. Peggy looked at the vial and took a deep breath before turning to Dooley
"that is the last remaining sample of Captain Steve Rogers' blood" she quietly said before all of them turned to her while Evy only stared at the vial in front of her trying to process what Peggy just said "where did you get that" Evy quietly spoke with her eyes still on the blood inside the vial
Peggy sighs "Mr. Stark was afraid your scientists would squander the remaining samples attempting to re-create the serum."
"Which they did, so I'm afraid you'll have to forgive him for trying to protect the greatest scientific feat of the 20th century" Jarvis spoke
"Howard didn't trust me with it, either. He lied about the contents of the device. He nearly convinced me that I was saving the city by stealing it"
"is that why you kept it?... he lied?" Daniel asked
She nodded "Maybe at first, or perhaps I didn't trust our greatest capitalist with such a prize. But I couldn't bring it here, either. And for that, I don't have an answer..."
Peggy looked at Evy to see her eyes still glued to the vial with a blank look on her face. After seeing her in that interrogation room before she ran away, Peggy learned that no matter how much in shock, pain, or whatever emotions Evy is feeling, she could stare at you blankly like nothing is happening and that scares her. She have no idea if Evy is angry or sad right at that moment
"I suppose I just wanted a second chance at keeping him safe" Peggy smiled sadly as all men watches her not knowing what to say
"I was supposed to bring it to Evy but I had second thoughts because I knew if I did she would know everything that I was hiding. I knew she would keep it safe with her whole heart" They all turned to her
Evy slowly lifted her head up to look at Peggy with a small smile on her face yet teary eyes. And that was the first time that all those men saw her emotional yet still managed to look at them with a brave look on her face "I'll get a coffee" she announced leaving the room
They all left Peggy and Jarvis on the briefing room right after Evy to discuss what their plan is
It has been an hour since Evy decided to went to another room to get some alone time. She never knew that even after it has been long since Steve was gone, memories of him would still hit her that hard even just from a small reminder of him. She finally stood up and took some deep breaths as she wiped her tears away. Getting herself together, she opened the door to leave the room
The second that she stepped out, she was met by yelling and pounding sounds coming from the other room, she hurriedly made her way there to find everyone gathered around Chief's office
"Chief Dooley!" Peggy yelled while Jack pounds on the door of his office "Chief!" she yelled again as Jack continued pounding on the locked door. Evy made her way to the front to see what they were all gathering around
Dooley was sitting on his chair with his head down on the table asleep with a unknown device around him "what the hell" Evy mumbled
After seconds, he finally lifted his head up "you okay?" Jack yelled while Dooley walked towards the door
"oh my god" Jarvis groaned stepping up front "very calmly now, everybody stand clear, please. Miss Carter, stand clear. Mr Thompson, stand back, please."
"he's gone isn't he?" Dooley asked "what is that?" evy asked eyeing Dooley "that is the prototype for a new system of armor" Jarvis answered with his eyes glued to the prototype around Dooley
Jarvis explained the whole thing and effects of the armor to everyone "it invariably overheats with rather violent result"
"how violent" Dooley turned to him "explosive" Evy shook her head "get the scientists!"
Moments after the scientists came, they all waited for something good to happen "these clasps, they're locked" the scientist spoke
"My god, it's searing his skin" the scientist freaks out "I don't know what to do"
