We stopped for rest in the middle of no where, the boy had followed us along with the three other children
I crouched down in the floor {I can't hear any pursuers on the ground... No sign of them, either}
"IDIOT!" The boy (not one of the three kids) said slapping Emma across the face "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! JUST WHEN I THOUGHT YOU HAD RUN FOR IT, ALL OF A SUDDEN... TURNS OUT YOU CAME TO HELP THESE KIDS YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!! ARE YOU STUPID?!"
"Yes" Emma said rubbing the back of her neck
{This really does happen so often}
"You even had to go and get the worst if them too... That one is no laughing matter... The one with a hat..." The boy explained
"Say... The demons... I mean, the monsters who come to these, hm, grounds... Are they always the same ones?" I questioned
"Yes, but why?" The boy replied
"How many?" I added to the question
"Five. I mean, not counting the "attendants"" The boy answered
"And how many humans?" Emma asked
"Usually some 50 at best... Right now, it should be around that number..." The boy said
"Do they come to hunt everyday?" I asked again
"No, about once every 3 days... But never mind that!" The boy said "We don't have time to fool around! We really should get away right now and find a place to hide. Even if they're actually not tracking us right now, they will soon enough. And the other monsters could also spot us and come-"
"But...!" Emma turned her head towards the little boy and a girl behind the little boy
"Go, Go! We can deal with this! You go! And thanks... Thanks you three. You really risked your lives to save us. In the beginning, I didn't believe it at all... I can run jusr fine already. Only gotta rest for a little bit and I'll go. It's okay, so..." The little boy said
"Got it" I said "Then lets split up and get away"
"But... Where to?" I heard the little boy ask his female sibling
"You're still bleeding..." She replied to him
"We bought ourselves some time, so just head downwind... And find a place to hide" I explained as Emma bandaged the boy's wound "If you stay down wind, they'll probably have trouble picking up the scent of blood, or hearing any noises. But try and do your best not to leave tracks. And keep an eye out for their tracks. If you spot any, run before they find you"
"But... If they still manage to find you, and there's no way to escape... Before they kill you, tell the monsters to come after us" Emma said and I nodded
"What...?!" The boy asked, wondering if we were insane
"Tell them, "They're from Grace Field". "First come, first served." "Got it?"" I said
"Just say something like that and you'll be fine" Emma added
"I'm Emma. Who are you guys?" Emma put her hand out
"Theo" The little boy answered
"Monica" The girl said
"Jake" The eldest one answered
"And you?" The three children turned to me
"Name's Y/n" I said
"Well then, let's meet again later!" Emma said and we ran away with the boy we still hadn't known the name
{It's alright. The demons number 5... The humans, 50. Replenishment is once a month. The hunts happen about once every 3 days... So the amount of killing in each hunt has to be limited. They can't kill a lot at once. Yes, I'm sure of it! Emma and I are premium goods - something that even they cannot normally eat. They'll all want a piece. I will make good use if how they value me!}
"I don't want to die here. More than that, I can't afford to die here. But... I can't just ignore them. Just leave them to die like it's nothing? No way!!" Emma said as we ran
"... In that case, I feel like you were too easily convinced to leave them behind" The boy said
"Well, a group as large as six would attract attention, and Theo's bleeding... I've got mixed feelings about it, but... The thing is, staying with Y/n and I is dangerous. I figure those two Demons are probably coming after us in particular" Emma explained
"I see... Given that it was probably the best course of action" The boy said
"And, by the same token, you should get away from us, too!" Emma said
"Shaddap. As if I'd let myself get killed by the likes of you. Do you get it? The crucial thing is to buy time. If yoy manage to stay hidden until the music plays again, you're saved from this hunt" The boy explained
I looked up {So if I protect Emma, buying time until the music plays, then we'll be safe to explore this place... For 3 days atleast}
"... Right, but... There's something I'd like to do while we run" Emma said and she paused sharply and looked down
"Look" Emma said "The demons don't seem to be taking any care in hiding their tracks. Even though they're very smart..."
{Are they so much stronger that they don't even care? Or maybe they just enjoy letting us know they're around}
"Anyway, what's clear is that our side can track them, too" Emma said
"And?" The boy asked
"I'll try to stay one step ahead of the demons, get to the children before them, and help those too scared to run. Maybe there's nothing I can really do... But I still want to help as many kids as possible" Emma said
"Because "You can't just ignore them"?" The boy asked him
"Yes!" Emma answered
"Sigh... Dealing with you is a kind of pain" The boy told Emma
"Agreed, buddy" I said
"I get told that a lot" Emma added
{I hunt animals too. So I'm a hunter, too... But... Not like this. Like.. Like... Like... Like they're playing with toys}
"Ok, I get it. But if things go south, I'm taking you two to a safe place. By force, if I have to" The boy said
