Disturbing Feelings

It was an archaic traditional marriage which took place at the Wulfric compound. Like most wedding ceremonies, Lilah and Asher exchanged their marriage vows in the presence of the elders and other honorable pack members. After which they presented gifts, the priest pronounced them mates.

They dressed Lilah in a simple, white, A-lined dress. Amaya held her new daughter-in-law in while some guards helped her with the bags. Lilah lives with the Rhys family now. A smile if appreciation brightened her face as Amaya led her into their home. She instructed they take Lilah's luggage to her son's room, while she sat with Lilah, talking about her likes and dislikes. Getting to know her more. They had an enjoyable time, discussing while Asher tiredly entered his bathroom to shower before taking a rest in his bed.

That night, Lilah prepared noodles, vegetable, and meat combo for dinner. It was the first time Asher was eating her food as her husband. He felt hungry but eaten a little, trying to hide the fact that it was tasty.

Amaya wore a big smile, enjoying the plate of steaming hot noodles.

"Wow, that was delicious." Anaya commented. Drinking a glass of water with satisfaction.

She studied the look on Asher's face. He just wore an empty look at her.

"Don't overthink it, son. She's a wonderful cook." Amaya persuaded. Asher fell slouchy in the chair with droopy red eyes, not replying.

After eating, Lilah packed up the dishes into the kitchen. After clearing the table, Lilah came back to the dining table.

"Okay, Mrs. Rhys, I'll be in the room. I want to rest."

"That's good. But please, refer to me as mum or Anaya, not Mrs. Rhys. We are family now, okay?"

"Okay, ma." Lilah gave a shy smile, but Asher turned away.

Not interested. Not impressed. He just sat there, scrolling through his phone.

Lilah walked in and Anaya couldn't help but to admire her once more. She gently placed a hand on her son's knee, and her looked at her. Dropping the phone. Paying attention.

"She would make an excellent wife. She's kind and enduring. Not every girl in her shoes can take such risks and accept such circumstances. You should be free with her." Amaya pleaded.

Asher stroke the nape of his neck, replying her words with a fake smile. He knew his mum did not know that he fired her barely a month ago. And Lilah was jobless now. She couldn't continue working with Jordan company. Avoiding Conan by all means. Well, he was less concerned. They are only together because of the pregnancy.

Lilah went to clean up the kitchen before retiring to bed. Entering the bedroom where her luggage was kept, she realized Asher was already on the bed. He seated by the edge, reading through a business magazine at hand. As Lilah entered, her lips gasped for air. Startled at his presence.

"Don't worry, I'm not sleeping here. Could you help me with the pillow?" she whispered.

Asher replied with an exasperated sigh.

"For what?" he raised an eyebrow.

"I want to sleep in the guest room. I already checked but there is no pillow there. I can't sleep without one." She explained.

"Um.. No, no. You can't sleep there. You know what? He took his magazine, standing up. You can have the bed. Sleep here, I'll sleep in the guest room." He muttered, looking down. Asher tried as much as possible to avoid her blue eyes.

Lilah just watched him, confused.

"Asher." She called upon him.

"Yes?" He turned back to her.

"I'm sorry. The last time I was in your office, I misbehaved. I shouldn't have done that and... You can use this. She handed him a thick black blanket she brought from home.

He collected it from her. It had a soft texture... Softer than his blanket. He looked away, and stride towards the door.

"Goodnight." she said to him.

Asher stood by the door, staring at her with delicate pupils. Lilah looked away to the ground, avoiding many more if his eye contact. It was awkward.

He gently closed the door, and she went to bed. It was comfortable, just like hers back home. Asher walked into the guest room. Although it wasn't as big as his, he had slept there twice.

He dragged his feet to the bed, placing the magazine on the chest of the shelf behind the bed. With a droopy body, he sat on the bed titling his head forward against his hands. He wiped through his shiny hair, confusedly, thinking about how the day had gone. They only exchanged rings and wedding vows, without a kiss to seal it. Thus wasn't the wedding Asher had dreamt of. He planned to marry Asena, not her sister. Gently, he placed his back, lying flat on the bed and using the black blanket Lilah face him.

Perceiving its smell, it scented just like Asena. He couldn't help but to think about her again. He still wished she were alive somehow. Even though he betrayed by marrying Lilah. Asher knew none of this would have happened if his mate was still alive.

Lilah couldn't sleep. She scrolled through her phone to text Conan, but the words confused her to use. Even if they weren't meant to marry, at least they should have remained friends.

"I miss you." Her fingers deleted the words instead of pressing the send button. Her Screensaver was the picture of Conan, smiling at her. She stared at her phone's screen for a while, knowing she would never witness his love again.

Tears rolled down the corners of her eyes as she scrolled through her gallery, admiring his pictures. The times they spent together were priceless. She watched every picture with joy, sadness, and regret.

'How do I forget about you? I'm loving you more now that I'm married to someone else. I miss you a lot, Conan, but is Asher truly my destined mate?' She pondered on the thoughts. A deep sigh heaved out of her breath before turning off the lights.

'Asena, you are gone, but I can still feel your presence. I am heartbroken, but I still dream about your laughter. About us. How do I forget about you? I'm loving you more now that I'm married to someone else. I miss you a lot, Asena, but is Lilah truly my destined mate?' Asher widened his eyes in the darkness, unable to sleep.

5 Weeks Later...

Lilah wore a black flapper dress with black ankle boots to match. She stepped out of an old yellow taxi and entered a boutique to pick some maternity clothes. It had men and women wears, alike, so Lilah strolled in the row, looking for what fit.

Just then, her eyes met Conan's in front of her. Lilah placed a hand over her mouth and gasped. Fear laced her baby-blue eyes as she took a step back. It seemed Conan came shopping too. He glared at her with so much hate, saying nothing.

Conan raised his eyes at her with a steady eye contact. He stopped and she stopped too. His slightly tucked in chin showed he was still angry at her. Lilah felt guilty as they stared at each other. She just stood still, watching him. Instead of walking forward, Conan turned back, following the other way to the receptionist.

Tears filled Lilah's eyes as she watched him leave. She swallowed on her throat, knowing he won't be able to complete his shopping because of her presence.

'Why is he avoiding me? I'm not a monster now, am I?' Lilah cried in her mind as age watched him leave. She didn't bother to go after him. It is useless trying to convince him. She picked up two more clothes before leaving the boutique.
