PROLOGUE

His heavy boots stomped against the hollow wood floor, making her body tremble vigorously at the vibrations he created.

She heard a few bones cracking, followed by a pleased low hum.

A tear slipped past her burning cheek, convinced she would be dying that evening, sequestered in his cigarette-scented closet, with her palm pressed against her mouth to prevent her breathing from being heard.

He then inhaled through his nose, exhaling. "I can smell you." His red tongue ran against his lips in delight, walking playfully down the hallway.

She kept her eyes locked on the open window through the small crack of the closet door, determined to sprint when his acrimonious presence left.

"So, you wanna play hide and seek, huh?" He questioned, snickering.

His footsteps dissipated.

'No. I won't be dying here.' She determined as she slowly began to open the door.
