~ (y/n)'s POV ~
I was a little shocked, but not completely surprised. I gulped and quickly slung the bag onto my shoulder, lugging it over to the door. My dad nodded with complacence and let go of the door frame, striding down the hall.
The silence from him was kind of scary. The kind of scary where 'you don't know if it's good or bad' scary. I took a deep breath, adjusted my glasses and chased after him so I wouldn't be scolded for being slow. Once I started walking with him down the stairs, he poked my shoulder, causing me to look up anxiously, worried what he might do.
Instead of chewing me out, he handed me a bag of seaweed chips, "You can have more food at the agency. Eat." He insisted, continuing to walk down the flight of stairs.
I was frozen in the middle of the stairs, stuck on why he was being...kind to me. His motives could range from just wanting to be a nice person, to buttering me up in preparation for something much worse. Whatever reasons he had for doing this, I had to keep my guard up, preparing for the worst.
"Come on, we don't have all day, (y/n)!" He called from the bottom of the stairs, continuing to was to front door.
I shook out of my daze and scurried down the stairs, trying to keep this 'happy' demeanor of his going, "C-coming!" I shouted back, making my way to his side.
I realized that Shoto wanted to come too, and I looked up dad with a wishful gaze, "C-can Shoto come too? He mentioned about wanting to come with us today!" I mentioned.
He looked at me with a neutral stare and then looked back in front of him, "This is Shoto's first day off. He should have a day to rest and regroup his thoughts." He simply stated.
As we exited the house, I looked back through the doorway and up to the bathroom that Shoto was in. It probably was the best for him that he stayed and rested. And it gave me time to sort out my feelings and thoughts about Shoto, so I was grateful for that.
We made it to the car, and I got in the front seat, and buckled up. He did the same, adjusting his mirrors and turned on the radio to a station that gave reports of live villain attacks. This was nothing new though. Dad took his job as a hero very seriously. Once he was all settled in, he looked me up and down to see if I had missed anything. I held my breath as he did so, but then he shrugged and looked away, starting to drive out of the driveway.
We just sat for most of the way in silence, not bothering to speak to one another. I was fine with this, just looking out the window, listing to the news, and most of all not being forced to interact with my dad. I started eat the seaweed chips he gave me, and I kept stealing some glances at him though, skeptical about this whole 'nice dad' ordeal. Although I wasn't fully convinced that this was genuine, I was gonna take it as long as he decided to show it, but I was prepared for when he shows his true colors as well.
"Hey, we're here. Grab your bag and head inside." He stated, parking the car and getting out.
I nodded and grabbed my bag from the backseat and look up at the building that towered the city. Even though I've been here hundreds of times, it was still as intense and intimidating as ever. I took a shaky breath before following my dad inside. We rode up the elevator and I continued to eat my seaweed chips, anxiously watching the numbers go up on the elevator. Being trapped in an elevator with my dad brings back some not so fond memories, so I was excited to get out of here.
Once we hit the gym floor, the door dinged and slid open and I swiftly weaved through the doors and sprinted to the entrance of the training room. I heard my dad call after me to slow down, but I didn't really care at the moment. All I wanted was to get away from this freakishly 'sweet' side of dad. It wasn't like him to not make a degrading remark or to not shoot me one of his dangerous, icy glares.
