chapter 59
rule 59. spread love on Christmas
7pm in NYC
Kori's POV

"I thought you would be mine this Christmassss. Ring, ring, ring, hear the bells ringing on the Christmas tree. Minnesota winter, snow is glisteninggg." I sung to Samir over FaceTime. Jamely was in my lap bopping to it.

"Samir were you really listening to the lyrics. Because I really though you were gonna be mine. But you're not." Samir gave me annoyed look in response to my statement.

"You like pissing me off." He finally said and I just laughed.

"I thought you were supposed to be putting up your Christmas tree Kori," he asked after I stopped laughing.

"Mannnn I thought so too. But my parent decided to go to my grandmas."

"Why you never go to your grandmas with your parents."

"Because I just don't. She be complaining all the time when I'm over there. It's always something and I'm sick of being a slave and grabbing and fixing every little thing. My ancestors didn't fight for nothing."

"Ancestors not crazy Kori!?!" Samir said shocked.

"Once she made me clean all the rooms in the house. Bedrooms, bathroom, shit I was even putting in work in the garage. And my parents ain't said a damn thing."

"But yeah I be there everyone once in a while, and stay upstairs because she talk talk talk."

"You and your fam got matching pajamas?" He asked and I nodded.

"Because my mom wants us to take family pictures and stuff. It's cute though, I like them." I said smiling down at my outfit.

"Kori! Come on we putting up the tree!!!" I heard making me slightly roll my eyes.

"Sammy Wammy I gotta go put up a tree right now."

"That means I'll have to talk to you later. But I might be putting up the tree too."

"Twinnyyy," I smiled getting up from my bed with Iamely on my side.

"Talk to you later beautiful," he cheesed and I did too before ending the call.

"How you call me down anddd you not even ready yet?" I mugged them as I sat on the couch. I've been on here for 20 minutes waiting for these people.

Tree isn't even in the living room. Decorations aren't here.

Everyday black people test me...

"Kori watch it! Wait a while until we get ourselves together."

"Stop gossiping and get my tree!" I said looking back to them. Then they decided to ignore me for a while.

"Jamely you see what I gotta deal with?" I said as he stood up on the couch next to me.

"Like if this tree isn't in the living room in 20 minutes I'm really just gonna run away." I continued and he leaned his face on mine.

"And I'm taking you with me," I added and he made up his face at me.

"Don't look at me crazy, if I do it, you gone do it!"

"So Jamely it's been a minute king. How are you doing? What's new with you? What do you want for Christmas."

"Baba," he said kissing my cheek.

"You want pacifier for Christmas?" I asked and he shook his head no.

"Baba," he said a few times getting louder every time.
