"You pay for all this on an ex cyber analyst salary?" Jake asks eyeing around the apartment as I usher him in.

I give the thirty something year old man a once over. His tall frame moves around briskly, tan clinging to his skin like burrs.

"Someone did his homework" I say as he gives Darelle some sort of bro hug.

"I had to know the mysterious woman my client is willing to lose his career over" he says, not angrily but curious.

"Well when your dead mother leaves everything in your name I think she means you have to use the money. Besides it's my dad's apartment, he waived off some rent" I retaliate.

His eyebrows crease "Where's your dad? I thought for sure he'd be here seeing as he's been pulled into this mess."

"When you see me you've seen my father"

A faint smile stretches on his lips "Quoting Jesus are we?" His thick Italian accent inquires.

"Okay children. Focus" Darelle pulls our attention.

Jake turns to him, drawing his suited legs apart. "What'd you have in mind? Because I know the police will be knocking on this door anytime soon. Madison might not have evidence but Crapper will find a way. So you both need to act first. The paparazzi are already swarming this apartment. I need to know everything Darelle"

Darelle narrates everything to Jake. From when all this started up to now. Including how me and him met and how I helped him.

Jake sighs "Well I'm sorry you had to go through that. How many times did you try to report?" he asks genuinely.

"The threats? Twice."

"And the domestic violence?"

"Who'd believe me?" Darelle mutters. "Or better yet who between the two of us do you think they'd believe? I'm sure you've read the comments" I rub Darelle's hand to show solidarity.

Realization strikes Jake's face and he nods in understanding. The truth is the society has subjective anger. The way they'd handle such a case if the roles are reversed is totally different. Both gender and race wise.

Jake runs his hands through his face in exasperation. "Nevertheless, we need to figure something out and soon"

"That's why I called you here"

"Well go on"

Darelle intakes a deep breath "I think I'm ready to tell my truth"

"That's amazing man" Jake pats his shoulder. "But with what evidence?"

Darelle's lips pull into a smirk. "I have a plan" Have I said how proud I am of him? This is the best step he could ever take and I couldn't be prouder.
