~Third Person PoV~

The throne room on Daemos was dull and grim, setting the tone of every word that was spoken there. The walls and floor were colorless, and shades of white and gray adorned everything. The only color in the room was behind the throne: the glowing purple crystals that lined the back panels that framed the steps to where the King sat on his throne, shadowed in darkness. Along the other walls of the room were the pews where the High Council would sit, but currently the King was only accompanied Lady Grandma and Rhal, who stood before him, faces wracked with anxiety.

The King speaks, his voice booming yet dark and gravely. "Tell me, both of you!" Lady Grandma's eyes glowed with worry for what was to come, what he might say in this meeting of sorts. "Where. Is. Asch?!"

Wide-eyed, Rhal speaks up up. "He has gone on a journey of self re-" He struggles to find the word his grandmother had used. "re... re... reeee- uh..."

"What is this journey of self re?" The King interjects, leaning back in his throne.

"Self reflection." The former queen corrects him. "Asch has embarked on a journey to reflect upon his life, and-"

"AT A TIME LIKE THIS?!" The King's voice in fury was enough to shake the walls of the throne room.

Lady Grandma maintains her calm aura despite the feeling that everything could crumble around her in seconds. "I understand your anger, but I ask of you to hear me out."

The King let out a sighs. "I'm listening..."

"Never before in the history of Daemos have we as a society ever faced the extinction of magic." She begins. "Now, here we are. We as royalty and the high council must face dealing with information before it falls into knowledge of our subjects."

Rhal raises a brow, turning to face the older woman. "Wait... Our people do not know?"

Lady Grandma turns to him in return, eyes closed. "This is why attending meetings is important, Rhal."

The prince's eyes widen. "I mean I-" He looks away from the two. "Um- right! I remember, since I attended all of my m-"

"Silence!" The King demands.

Rhal shifts his gaze back to his father, his eyes holding a powerlessness he would never imagine he'd be so familiar with. "Y-Yes."

"As I was saying," Lady Grandma continues, "In the midst of war with the other kingdoms, we are faced with making a terrible choice." Her brows furrow. "A choice which Asch will fall victim to. As his grandmother, I have allowed him time to go on a journey until he is needed to-"

The King slams his fist down on the arm of his throne, sending tremors through the palace walls. "As the former queen of Daemos, I would not expect you to become so soft, mother, yet here we are."
