He didn't have enough time to think it through. He didn't even really think about what he was going to do in one second. Everything he saw was his colleague and girlfriend Carrie coming under fire from the unsub. She didn't even see the man aiming his gun in her direction because she was talking to the teenager they just rescued from that guy. She was the man's daughter and he had kidnapped her due to a divorce battle between him and her mother. Now the young girl was laying in Carrie's arms; she tried to console her. And so didn't realize what was happening behind her back. Spencer started to run. He needed to save her.

„Carrie!" Everyone turned around when Spencer's voice was heard. „Reid, what are you doing?!", Aaron Hotchner shouted, but Spencer didn't hear him. All he focused on was the love of his life about to be shot. She whirled around and now she saw the girl's father with the gun in his hands. But before she could say or do anything, Carrie found herself on the ground, hearing the ear-battering sound of a shot and people screaming. She couldn't move, it was like something heavy was laying on her. „Spencer! Oh my god, Spencer! He got hit!" It was JJ screaming and running towards them. While she and Derek took Spencer's unconscious body from Carrie's, Hotch brought the emergency doctors, which luckily were already at the crime scene, to his second youngest agent.

Carrie now finally realized what happened when she took a look at her boyfriend. Blood was everywhere and it seemed like even the doctors couldn't find the spot where the bullet hit Spencer's body. She rushed to him, kneeled next to his head and pushed the messy hair out of his face. „Spencer! Oh my god why did you do that", she sobbed but knew he couldn't hear her. „Please get out of the way, agent", one of the doctors said while he signed to one of the paramedics to bring the barrow. „Hurry up, he needs to be in the hospital within the next fifteen minutes or we'll lose him!", he yelled, ignoring all the other FBI agents. „I...I'll go with you", Carrie said while standing up. Not only her voice was shaking, her whole body was too. She couldn't believe what just happened within the last two minutes. It happened all so fast, she didn't even have the chance to do anything. And Spencer...She wiped some tears, which were already streaming down her cheeks, away and followed the doctors and paramedics to the ambulance. „We'll be in the hospital in a few minutes as well!", Derek called out to her, but she didn't answer. Everything she saw and was worried about was Spencer at this moment. The man she loved. The man who just saved her from lying here on the barrow now. Please dear god, please let him survive. He can't die, she prayed silently while sitting there, holding his hand and watching the doctors who tried to stop the bleeding in Spencer's chest.

„Faster!", one of the doctors suddenly yelled and Carrie cringed. „Will he make it?", she asked, filled with fear. The doctor shrugged. „We can't say anything unless he got the surgery. We need to remove the bullet, it's causing more and more damage the longer it stays inside his body. The faster he's into the OR the better."

It seemed to have taken hours when the ambulance finally arrived at the hospital. No one cared about Carrie anymore, it was all about Spencer. Nurses and more doctors transported him into the OR while Carrie kept standing outside the hospital. Her head was empty, she felt dizzy and like crying, but there somehow weren't any tears at the moment. With shaking legs she finally entered the entrance. There was immediately that obtrusive hospital smell that surrounded her and she closed her eyes for a second. She hated this smell. She hated hospitals. She had never felt comfortable surrounded by doctors and nurses. With folded arms in front of her chest she started to walk around to find the OR. „Excuse me, Madam. Can I help you?" Carrie looked up and saw the pretty face of a middle-aged woman dressed in a white lab coat. The glasses she was wearing gave her a severe look and for a moment Carrie thought about just ignoring her or saying she didn't need help. But she did. She was tired, her back hurt because Spencer fell on her when he got shot and she was terribly afraid. „Uhm...I...I'm searching for the OR. Doctors just rushed in my colleague and friend for an emergency surgery", she explained while letting her eyes wandering around. Where were Derek and the others? They should've been here already, she guessed. But they were nowhere to be seen. „My dear, you have to wait in the waiters room. It's right over there", the nurse said pointing to a quite small room. Carrie tried to hold back a deep sigh. There were already 3 people sitting in there and she didn't feel like being around strangers. „I'll go get me some coffee", she murmured now and went away, feeling the nurse's looks on her back.
